I'm usually quick to moan when old buildings in the areas are pulled down, but having seen the plans, I think they're OK. They do at least look as if they once graced an architects table (unlike so many other generic, off-the-shelf new builds nearby), and could act as something of an architectural b...

If there's £10K going spare, add it to the High St improvement fund instead of wasting it on a stack of broken tiles and grout. If someone wants a pet project to improve the look of the area, try persuading the local estate agents to remove their old sale/let boards from the fronts of the shops, as ...

Old views of Sydenham Hill
I'm not sure whether these have already been posted here, but if you follow the links below, Southwark Museum has some interesting old shots of Sydenham Hill. The Baby Hospital seems a particularly sad loss http://www.southwarkcollections.org.uk/code/emuseum.asp?style=browse¤trecord=9&...

Maybe if they site the mosaic nearer pavement level it could double as a urinal for the ever-present vagrants and drunks that loiter outside. Surely the point of art is to enjoy it. Who on earth is going to appreciate the mosaic, however good it is, in such a dire setting and on such a drab building...

Scott Assuming you're concerned about the roots of the bamboo, rather than it's potential height, don't worry. Even the largest species only root to about 50cm deep into the soil - usually just 30cm in this country. And although they can grow quite vigorously, it is extremely unlikely to cause subsi...

Kster There'd be far more parking for everyone is selfish homeowners didn't monopolize the roads by creating private parking spaces. The average house is wide enough for at least two cars to park outside. Pave over the garden and demand permanent access - that's two less spaces for everyone. And by ...

Ginge If needs must......... The road in question is the one with the car care shop on the corner. Considering that it's so close to the high street, it's ridiculous that homeowners have been allowed to highjack the parking there with their makeshift drives. I don't park there through choice but if ...

I absolutely agree, cars parked on front gardens looks horrid. It certainly spoils the look of the house and can blight entire roads. There's one road off the high street (I forget it's name) where virtually every garden has been paved over. It's an eyesore but also means no one else can park along ...
