They're a darn sight nicer than pigeons. The sooner that verminous species is displaced, the better.

I'm usually quick to moan when old buildings in the areas are pulled down, but having seen the plans, I think they're OK. They do at least look as if they once graced an architects table (unlike so many other generic, off-the-shelf new builds nearby), and could act as something of an architectural b...

If there's £10K going spare, add it to the High St improvement fund instead of wasting it on a stack of broken tiles and grout. If someone wants a pet project to improve the look of the area, try persuading the local estate agents to remove their old sale/let boards from the fronts of the shops, as ...

Old views of Sydenham Hill

I'm not sure whether these have already been posted here, but if you follow the links below, Southwark Museum has some interesting old shots of Sydenham Hill. The Baby Hospital seems a particularly sad loss http://www.southwarkcollections.org.uk/code/emuseum.asp?style=browse&currentrecord=9&...

Maybe if they site the mosaic nearer pavement level it could double as a urinal for the ever-present vagrants and drunks that loiter outside. Surely the point of art is to enjoy it. Who on earth is going to appreciate the mosaic, however good it is, in such a dire setting and on such a drab building...

Stick a bow on a pig and it's still a pig. Only demolision would improve that eyesore.

Whatever the shop used to be, at least it's closed. An empty shop is far better than one selling over-priced, out of date, former-multipack products, in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if trading standards hadn't had a hand in their closure.

Where will the new residents and those using the shops actually park?

'Oh - sorry guys, hadn't thought of that - maybe we need to bulldoze the pub after all.' says the developer.

The poo at the Dulwich stables is too fresh to use straight away - you'd have to compost it first. It's also full of straw.

Maybe you should try the Sydenham Hypermarket - I've heard they sell all manner of @hit - none of it fresh.

Try Lidl.

They stock a great selection of fresh and frozen kittens - their catnip-stuffed ginger toms are especially good.

Scott Assuming you're concerned about the roots of the bamboo, rather than it's potential height, don't worry. Even the largest species only root to about 50cm deep into the soil - usually just 30cm in this country. And although they can grow quite vigorously, it is extremely unlikely to cause subsi...

If you ask nicely, maybe Mummy Cat will pop around and catch it for you.

I dare say she's not the sort of puss to play with it's blood-soaked corpse in the lounge before dropping it at your feet when you come home from work like our mog did. OK - so I shouldn't have a cat flap..............

It's great to see a front garden the way it should be - attractive and well maintained. I'm sure your neighbourhood looks nicer because of it.

Let's be honest - all we'll get is the biggest £1 shop in the southeast - maybe with a nail bar in one corner and a nylon wig salon at the back.

So it's OK for other people to walk 10-20 mins to go to the high street - and then walk 10-20 mins home laden with shopping - but not to walk more than five paces from your parked car to your front door. That makes sense.

Kster There'd be far more parking for everyone is selfish homeowners didn't monopolize the roads by creating private parking spaces. The average house is wide enough for at least two cars to park outside. Pave over the garden and demand permanent access - that's two less spaces for everyone. And by ...

I absolutely agree, cars parked on front gardens looks horrid. It certainly spoils the look of the house and can blight entire roads. There's one road off the high street (I forget it's name) where virtually every garden has been paved over. It's an eyesore but also means no one else can park along ...
