Re: CBRE say Bromley is best borough for wellbeing
The aspirant posh who can't afford Hall Lane or the Thorpes and so have to move further out to avoid us Lewisham riff-raff, you mean?

Re: CBRE say Bromley is best borough for wellbeing
Sorry, I lapsed into lazy stereotyping. I accept that it's quite possible to be posh without being particularly unpleasant.

Re: Local choir recommendation?
I sing in the Lewisham Choral Society which meets on Monday nights at St Laurence's church, Catford. A large but very friendly choir. There are no auditions, and we have singers with a wide range of expertise and experience, but we sing a quite challenging classical and contemporary repertoire. Next...

Re: Christmas lights
Went to the switch on of the lights on the Kirkdale tree this afternoon. Bigger crowd this year. Carols sung in a very avant-garde way. The singers split effortlessly into two choirs, and 'Jingle Bells' and 'Silent Night' were sung bi-tonally, each choir singing a tone apart from the other. Needs a ...

Re: Ideas for Christmas day
Try Voluntary Services Lewisham (https://vslonline.org.uk/). They will know what the opportunities are. Churches Together in Sydenham and Forest Hill usually organise a Christmas Day lunch for elderly, frail and isolated people, which VSL are very much involved with.

Re: St Antholin Spire / Heritage of London Trust
Went to the formal unveiling of the restored spire this morning. Very impressive, particularly the gilded bit at the top. It was good to see the children from Holy Trinity school there, being taught about their local heritage (although I wondered whether our child-friendly dog, also in attendance, a...

Re: St Antholin Spire / Heritage of London Trust
We have lived happily for nearly forty years almost next door to the 'executive pastiche' and got to know the nice old lady who lived there for many years - she has now died . Our theory has always been that it was originally built as a country retreat by a retired Peckham gangster. As such , we fee...

I dont think we've heard much from Millton or EUSSR recently. Ah well, all good things come to an end.

Wonderful Brahms at St Barts
Second string sextet. Never heard it before. Totally stunning. Played by Ensemble 26 , brought to us by Sydenham Arts this evening.

Re: Petition. Lewisham isn't working: end the directly-elected mayoral system now
This came up on another local forum. It was stated pretty authoritatively that election methods for local authorities could be changed only by Parliament.

I understand the need for online security. But I've never quite understood the mania for online privacy. I'm quite prepared to sacrifice a bit of privacy for the sake of the wonderful ads I get. Cheap funerals, hearing aids, single women over 50 in Lewisham... they've got me to a T!

Re: Dartmouth Rd closure
I regularly travel along Dartmouth Road on foot, by bus and by car, and I think in all three modes it's a lot more pleasant, and, in the cases of bus and car, a lot quicker than it was.
