Re: Knighton Park Road

It simply is not true to say that the 'purpose' of a balcony space is to provide an escape in the event of fire. There are no laws or planning regulations suggesting this. I've found a few Lewisham and Bromley housing-design recommendation documents via google and can't see anything about fire safe...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

I am parent whose nightmare scenario is that your child drowns in front of your eyes. It may stem from witnessing when my toddler brother was taken out of murky river when he fell off a raft. He was lucky that my dad had seen him fall and get him out. My point is there is no lifeguard that will tak...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

Shouldn't you be raising this with the appropriate authorities, given that you would hate to be proved right but know you shall be? The main point was to make parents aware of the dangers. The Local Authority is fully aware of the issues. They are hiding behind the fact that the project has not bee...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

John. How about you never go there again? Would that work for you? Might help lessen your anxiousness and at the same time reduce the risk of a drowning event at the venue . What a trite and nasty comment. I can swim. I can swim even in dangerous water. There is a safety issue that responsible peop...

Re: Knighton Park Road

It would appear that all the flats have been dedicated to "social housing"... hence balconies festooned with hanging clothes and various items of rubbish. (Not that this is typical of all residents of social housing). The two terraced houses have not sold or been let. I work next to a new...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

Yes Stuart. The issue here is the design of the pond. I have watched, with considerable alarm, its construction from beginning to the end. Those who have read the Lewisham notices will recall Lewisham proudly boast about the depth of the pond. The pond became stagnant before it was fully filled. The...

The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park

On this topic I would hate to be proved right but I know I shall be. Lewisham's cut down cheap and nasty destruction of Beckenham Place Park has resulted in a large pond (they call it a lake) which is fifteen feet deep with invisible and sudden increases in depth. Despite the notices suggesting ther...

Re: Freeview reception problems?

If you are looping through the recorder that may well contribute to your problems BUT that does suggest downlead or even aerial issues.

Re: Janet Daby MP for East Lewisham Visit to Sydenham 11 July

This would appear to be a serious breach of the rules MPs operate under. Unless the sitting MP has been invited then I am pretty sure it is.

Re: Freeview reception problems?

There are lots of problems arising to the inappropriate choice of frequencies. While people upgraded their aerials to supposedly broadband ones few realised the downlead would present an issue. I have several sets in my house. On some it is possible to receive only some channels. There are lots of p...

Re: Incident at the bottom of Westwood Hill

Quite... We none of us know the facts. The fact that a teenager is fighting for his life should invoke some sort of sympathetic response rather than a red-neck condemnation. Whether it was his fault or not... he is facing his maker. What if it were a member of your family Rustya? The scandal is the ...

Re: Disability access

As someone living with two disabilities I can understand some of the points made and have sympathy with them. Since I also raised a profoundly deaf child I am aware of the issues concerning deafness. That being said I think people with disabilities need to be aware that society did not inflict the d...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Penge and Sydenham should be seen as a single area. Few people know where the boundary lies. The same could be said about Forest Hill and Sydenham, which are at least in the same borough. But then I would say that, wouldn't I, living, as I suspect I do, at the opposite end of SE26 to 'John H'? Fore...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Right - to get back on topic.. I’ve already had my wee say generally about living here but just to give some stats on crime (as it’s something spoken about by quite a few people here) rather than subjective hearsay (including my own as I did admittedly say from personal experience). The following a...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Sydenham is well situated for transport as others have mentioned even though it takes 60% longer to reach London Bridge than it did when I moved here 32 years ago. 32 years ago there were less commuters and less trains on the tracks... of course it won't be as quick... 60% is an over-exaggaration t...
