Re: Scores on the Doors
Selim Kebabs: 4 stars (beats the stereotype!) It's a bit off-putting when a kebab shop beats most of the proper sit-down restaurants. On the back of this, I went to Selim's one evening when I couldn't be bothered to cook anything. I went for a chicken kebab and it was lovely; decent quality meat in...

riding bikes without brakes, fixed gear I think it's called...about time they were prosecuted for breaking the law. I ride a fixed gear/fixed wheel/fixie (whatever you want to call it) - it has no back brake, just a front brake. I don't need a back brake because there is no freewheel, so I can brak...

We've had problems ever since the burst water main a few months ago cut off supplies for most of the day. Our electric shower refuses to heat up the water, complaining of low pressure, on a regular basis, usually between 7-8am, which I guess is when demand peaks and the pressure in the main falls. H...

Good to hear that our experience was the rule rather than the exception, huntress. And no, I wasn't sitting with someone from the musical profession; we got there at about 9:15 and were seated on a table for two quite near the back of the restaurant. I agree that the waitress did seem to be finding ...

Went there on Friday night with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed ourselves. The place has been decorated tastefully, the staff are friendly and the service was paced just right. We shared olives, oil and ciabatta to start; the bread was fresh and the olives were very good quality. For main, ...

http://www.houseprices.co.uk/ is a very good website for this sort of thing. I bought a house in Sydenham this year at probably the top of the market (but hey, I'm in it for the long term) and was relieved to see that months after my sale went through, people were paying a little bit more for identi...
Just thought I'd share my reply from TfL with everyone: Thank you for your recent email regarding route 176. I am sorry that you have not experienced the first class bus service that we are committed to providing, and we welcome any comments to help us improve our services. We realise that our servi...

Re: Taxi to Gatwick?
I paid £28 at a similar sort of time a few months ago; that was with Sydenham Cars.natbeuk wrote:Hi all
Anyone know roughly how much a cab would be from Sydenham to Gatwick at about 4.30am-ish?
Nobody's going to know you want more bus routes into central London, unless you ask for it... I just emailed the following to TFL: I live close to Sydenham train station and often use the 176 service to travel from central London to my home in the early hours of the morning, especially at weekends....

The fish bar is no great loss - the chippie up on Kirkdale is much better. But it really does take a complete lack of imagination to replace it with yet another fried chicken joint. A bistro would be great and I myself have done some sums regarding opening up a cafe bar on the high street, but sadly...

Well, don't worry - if the environment and products are as bad as you say, with rent of £17k a year, it'll go under before long. Why is it that pound shops and dodgy supermarkets find Sydenham such an attractive place to do business? There are clearly people in the area with disposable income, but w...

Another thumbs down for any sort of BK/Mc D's/KFC - Sydenham doesn't need another garish fast-food joint, especially opposite the station where new visitors form their initial impression of the place. How about an establishment that operates as a deli and coffee shop during the day, then becomes mor...
