Same here - looking for a cleaner to come for a couple of hours per fortnight to do the bathroom, toilet and kitchen. We live on Canal Walk and would much rather pay someone local than go to an agency.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

An hour's a pretty good time when the course is crowded - well done. Just being able to run 10k without stopping marks you out as being one of the fitter members of the general public! Have any Sydenhamites entered the Nike Human Race which is taking place in Wembley later in the year? We could orga...

Fish and chips on a Sunday
Can anyone recommend a decent chippie that opens on a Sunday? I've just trekked down to the chippie at Penge East station (closed), the one opposite Somerfield (closed) and Mermaid (also closed). I've got a craving for fish and chips but I can't find anyone who'll sell me them!

Having recently moved to Sydenham and wanting to support local businesses, I made an appointment at Master Cutters. The girl who cut my hair didn't do it how I wanted and, after a couple of attempts at improving things, asked for help from Scott. He managed to rescue the situation, although my hair ...

The 176 is possibly the worst bus route I've ever had the misfortune to use. I'll recount my last two experiences of using it to get home from central London after the trains have stopped: I stood at a bus stop in Waterloo for an hour on Saturday night. Two 176s turned up at their scheduled times; t...

as an employee of Lewisham Council I am regularly asked why I don't cycle to work! In my (admittedly, brief) experience, the roads within Lewisham council boundaries are some of the most cyclist-unfriendly in London. I don't particularly like cycle lanes myself, but there are hardly any traffic lig...

Thanks to those who've posted answers... the thing is, I'm a bit of a roadie and try to avoid cycle paths as they seem to slow me down even more than buses and cars do! Does anyone take a better road-based route than the one I'm currently following? (Sydenham High Street -> Mayow Road -> Woolstone R...

Cycling to work
I've recently moved to Sydenham and cycle to work in Docklands every day. When I lived in Brixton, I would see loads of cyclists on my route, however now I see hardly any. I presume that's because the route I'm taking (through the Greenwich foot tunnel via Catford and Lewisham) isn't exactly the mos...
