Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
I was down there today, and sorry but there is nothing architecturally special about those gas holders - and expecting developers to go to the expense of building stuff inside them is bonkers (artist’s impressions are one thing, but it would be a massive ball ache to have to lift everything inside o...

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road
I agree that this looks very nice - at least going on the leaflet that came through the letterbox the other day. They’re doing a presentation at the Lovely Gallery on Thursday 25th in the evening. As for the development at the other end - site fenced off but nothing happening so far. Usual way with ...

Re: New pocket park bench
Agree the location is crap, except as a seat for the TalkTalk people/chuggers. But it does look like Ford paid for it, going by the signage.

No - I knew that, but they haven’t given us a food bin (of either kind, internal or external) despite moving to fortnightly collection. The contents of my black bin are starting to smell somewhat.

Re: food waste collection
We haven’t got a bin yet, though they stopped collecting the black bins this week. If it doesn’t turn up soon the contents of my black bin are going to left outside the Town Hall.

We went - was very good. Though not quite as good as your Jack and the Beanstalk IMHO.
Re: Aldi
Would be interested to know if the administrators have managed to hand the keys back yet - until that happens no-one else will be moving in. I think the conclusion of the previous thread on this was that there was no real chance of anyone making money on that site as a supermarket, given the proximi...

The lights seem to be on 24/7, which may be deliberate to deter squatters but given the business that was the tenant is in administration I wonder who's paying the bill...there are a lot of lights in there.

Re: Save Beer Rebellion - we need your help!
Ok - I thought the previous people (Marketplace something) gave up because it wasn't making money, not because they were temporary? They started off as part of the Portas thing, I think, but I thought at some point they went permanent but ended up giving up? They were there for at least a year as I ...

Re: St Philip Neri school, lower Sydenham
Not that I have a personal interest as my kids aren't there, but they are going to lose a lot of playground as per what happened to Adamsrill when it expanded - and have more kids using it.

Re: Save Beer Rebellion - we need your help!
Much as I hope they succeed, I think they have their work cut out - the location is too small for profitable comedy I would think and in the wrong place. Assuming they have a bar, how many seated punters can they fit in there? No more than a couple of dozen. Someone wanting to launch something like ...

That is a shame - wasn't a regular user as it's not near to me, but used to pop in on way to Horniman now and again. Wonder what the landlord intends to do with it - it isn't that big after all.

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting
And just to add that I agree that it doesn't matter if cafes in the high street differentiate on price - but I do think it matters in the Park. Two reasons - one, it means that some users of the Park are excluded, and two it's a publicly owned building so in my view more consideration should have be...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting
Just to pick up one point - B&G is definitely not cheaper than McDonalds and I doubt it's cheaper than Costa or Starbucks. What you're paying for is something that holds itself out as better than your average greasy spoon, clearly, and the food to be fair isn't bad. Fact remains though that the ...

Yes, we might have, but if you're going to claim you've seen the same working class families with their kids in both On The Hoof and Chef's Delight then sorry, but I don't believe you. Cherry and Ice of all of them comes closest to crossing that divide as it's combining a faintly hipster vibe with c...

Is it fewer or just different ones? I don't think they used the Sydenham Centre before so haven't they just moved the Philip Neri one up there?

Re: The Journey Cafe
Bit of both maybe - fact is gluten free cakes are not as nice as those made with proper flour, and the number of people with genuine issues with gluten is very small compared to those who claim to have such trendy allergies. So, as long as they have proper cakes too, no problem, but if they're 100% ...

Yes, they've made an effort with the outside, and the inside appears not to have furniture from a skip, so thumbs-up so far for the decor. If they've got a nice toilet they'll get more points. 'Gluten free' rings a few alarm bells, but let's see.

Mine moved too, but it surely makes more sense to use the Sydenham Centre than cancel school for a day? If they did that at my kids' school it would mean me or my wife having to take a day off, and most people are probably in that boat.

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting
Sorry, I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick - I have eaten in On The Hoof, Chef's Delight, the various greasy spoons, the pubs, McDs at Bell Green, etc. I am not arguing for the abolition of the lower end - and going back to my earlier post, if it's a choice between a supermarket th...
