Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Out of interest, was it just Stuart, Robin, and me attending from this forum? (genuine question) After all this debate about who is or is not on the panel was it really just the three of us who bothered to go along? No Michael - I was there as well - I’m not sure there were 100 there, but i think 7...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Good point Robin, considering that there was a discussion about diversity of the constituency, with 40% of the electorate described as BME.
Sitting in the back row, i can confirm that the audience was not entirely white.

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

Thank you Robin for your succinct summary of the evening , I also attended with my wife. I'd like to post up here thanks to 38 Degrees for organising the event , the Honor Oak pub for providing the room for free ( please note , Golden Lion!) and to the seven of the eight candidates who felt the elec...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings

I see this event is publicised on the 38 degrees website as "Meet Your Next MP " - if Mr Dowd doesn't turn up , should we assume that he doesn't want the job?

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

If Late Knights can make a go of the new venture on Kent House Road, maybe they would consider it - would be great to have a really local brewer with a pub in the centre of Sydenham. They dont seem too worried about small venues, and by the sounds of it their new place doesn't have much more going f...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Westminster council has asked a developer to rebuild a pub a developer knocked down without permission 'as it was before, brick by brick.' http://www.lbc.co.uk/council-order-pub-be-rebuilt-after-illegal-demolition-108822 I wonder which one will be completed first. Lee - if you find anyone prepared ...

Re: Overground - first five carriage train arrives!

Willy - I think you'll find that when the Brunels first dug the tunnel under the Thames that the line now uses in the 1820s, it never occurred to anyone that what is now Canary Wharf would ever provide much passenger traffic. It would be interesting to know if it a spur was ever considered at the ti...

Terrazzo Floor

We are having work done to our hall and lifting the carpet has revealed a terrazzo floor, in need of some repair and restoration. I guess this may be a feature of other period houses in Sydenham - has anyone else managed to repair one of these floors, and if so , is there a specialist that you can r...

Re: Newspaper Deliveries

Just a quick update for anyone else looking for a delivery service to replace the Inglemere Road Shop - Centre News has been great so far, delivering correctly and relatively early every day. The shopkeeper says he will cover the Thorpes and probably out as far as Dacres Road, so its worth enquiring...

Now that the newsagents in Inglemere has stopped delivering to the Thorpes - does anyone know of a local newsagent that delivers the daily papers, and would cover the Thorpes addresses?

Re: Be frank : would you say that city safe ?

Soazig As the parent of three kids 21,18,15 and a long time resident of Sydenham I may be able to add a few points Safety - Sydenham is no more dangerous than most of the outer London suburbs- as mentioned before there is a bit of violence between teenage boys through out London, but most of it is g...
