Hi Chris Small world! I spent my Christmas in snowy Alan Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport, and very pretty it all was on Boxing Day morning when we went for a walk in sunny Didsbury! I'm sure Sydenham Society's Archivist and local historian, Steve Grindlay, will endeavour to assist you in your quest for...

CHRISTMAS IS COMING! At 12.15 pm today a Christmas tree was being delivered outside the Post Office - not to Angie's Florist - but for planting in a specially prepared hole in the pavement, courtesy of Lewisham Council (something at long last to say "thank you" for after our year of misery...

Well it's open!

At 6.00 pm tonight there were no barriers to stop pedestrians crossing and later at 9.50 pm it was being used.

So far so good - are our fears regarding safety allayed?

Please let this Forum know how you see it as a pedestrian and as a motorist.

Damp squib so far despite an e-mail from Lewisham's Head of Traffic and Parking yesterday stating that the zebra would be "fully operational" today. An enquiry has been made to the council in order to clarify the situation. There is new signage and the belisha beacon lights have been switc...

HOT NEWS!!

Sydenham Society has learned that the zebra crossing will be fully operational as from tomorrow.

Presumably it will have passed its Site Safety Audit. We wait to see what additional safety measures have been implemented, if any.

In the 1980's the Council twice tried to charge for parking at Girton Road car park. In the first instance over a petition with over 5000 signatures was presented to the Mayor and the threat was withdrawn. On the second occasion a charge was introduced but Safeways paid the parking fee for the first...

Still awaited - if the result is as anticipated ie that the design is flawed, I presume the Council will need to tell residents how they are going to remedy the situation - what further "minor modifications" (their favourite phrase) they will employ to make it safe. Problem is, of course, ...

I am reliably informed that a Site Safety Audit is currently being conducted by Lewisham Council Highways Dept and the Traffic Police at Catford. The good news is that this crossing will remain closed until such time as the audit has been completed. Residents of Sydenham can wait with baited breath ...

Leave the interior to those who want to enjoy it; the exterior is what offends me!
