Thank you tulse hill terry. A few months ago I visited Osborne House on the Isle Of Wight. The influence of the Crystal Palace at Sydenham [which is how the tour guide constantly referred to it] was very evident in Prince Albert's work he did with Cubitt. I'd say he more than 'borrowed' the Italiana...

I must admit I do prefer Hamburger Union over GBK [I really hate TLAs - especially pseudo trendy ones...GQT, what is with that?! On Radio4 of all places!] b...

Upper Sydenham is definitly safer than lower but you don't have as many shops at your disposal. The Wells park area is pretty sketchy though. Do yourself a favour and move the better side of Forest hill, the Dartmouth rd side of the tracks. Far less mouth breathers to put up with. Really? I appreci...

I'm certainly not intending to wade into either side of this argument, especially being a n00b and all but it never ceases to amaze me how often someone hauls someone else up for their grammar only for their own post[s] to contain examples of said trangression. It always makes me laugh. I quite ofte...

I live in the lawrie park triangle, and have visited the bridge pub once, but found the staff to be indifferent, its obviously a pub for young people, the food was expensive and the decor was bland, ok the atmosphere was ok and it was good to see families who had been to the park having a meal there...

Dacres Road statue
I know Dacres Road is Forest Hill but I wondered if anyone knew anything about the statue. Looked quite classically Greek to me...it's a man on his side in white stone. If I can explain. I work from home (I know I've mentioned this already) and everyday I take a 1 hour lunch break and go for a walk ...

Penge is a bit of a funny one. I quite often like to do a particular route when I go to CPP. It involves going to the Blue Mountain then along Sydenham Road; along Trewsbury Road; under the railway on Parish Lane and just meandering around. There are some real hidden gems! The King William IV Garden...

Looking to the skies...
Hello everyone. Please allow me to explain. I work from home and have noticed I find myself looking to the skies alot more often. I have lived in Sydenham a fair few years and was always aware of the sort of 'W' effect of planes going to Heathrow. One side comes over Beckenham banking over Catford H...

Sorry to double post... A few months back I was searching for a clip of the Sydenham fire and happened upon this youtube clip...I did think initially I didn't recognise the Sydenham to Dulwich Hill 'ride'. Then it hit me. This is the Sydenham in Sydney you refer to dickp and biscuitman1978? https://...

I flew to Belfast City Airport a few weeks ago and discovered that it is in Sydenham as well - Sydenham station is just nearby! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Best_Belfast_City_Airport I know that area you refer to fairly well Thomas. It's a staunchly loyalist area (96.4 percent Protestant acc...
