Re: Any gay bars in Syd/FH?
Thanks for your reply Simon, I might have guessed that the Dolphin would be a likely friendly venue! Although I look forward to hearing of some more suggestions from your mate. However, I do like the Golden Lion (and quizzes too!); though, the idea of an all-gay team doesn't sound very inclusive..! ...

Re: How's the commute?
I very rarely use London Bridge any more for my commute to and from work (at Tower Hill) as the Overground and District is more frequent and convenient (although takes about the same amount as time). I still tend to use London Bridge and Southern if I'm out in the evening though due to the later run...

Any gay bars in Syd/FH?
As it's a bit of a pain getting up west when you fancy a quickie (pint that is!) and would also like a chance of pulling whilst in a pub/bar, I wondered whether there was anywhere more local that is gay-friendly? All that I could find by Googling was the Two8Six in Lewisham and what looks lik...

Re: Lost bank card SE26 Kirkdale/Willow Way/Dartmouth Rd
If you had left it in the ATM, then this would 'swallow' it and it would be destroyed by the people servicing the bank machine (who should also inform your bank). If you think you may have dropped it then ring and cancel it immediately (which to be on the safe side, you should do so anyway).

Thanks for posting that Maestro. Sydenham and Forest Hill had always felt safer to me than other London areas I've lived in. What with the recent spate of hijackings, muggings and violent crimes though it's starting to feel (depressingly) that this area's sinking fast. I don't know the answer; howev...

BBW, my sources are impeccable, as always. Purelake have confirmed their involvement to me this morning. Just because something is not on the internet doesn't mean it isn't true. Sounds good, Simon. I moved to Syd just before the pub shut down so never had chance to try it out (although had gone pa...

I caught the last train of the night from Dalston today (2340) after alighting at Shoreditch earlier in the evening (and going to work via Whitechapel). I am loving the 'newness' of the trains and stations and so far all the Overground employees have been surprisingly helpful (it is a shame that I s...

Did we not have these exact same kind of problems when it was just the Southern service? Delays during peaks hours (last night's delay wasn't the fault of any train company), sweltering trains ... etc etc I was fortunate enough to get a ELL train at Syders (from CP) during the delays. The train dri...

the new lines great - but was getting home today from London Bridge 5:30pm such a f**king mission - I hope this ain't the norm every day It was just as bad for ELL passengers today. A lineside fire at Norwood Junction affected both sets of trains during the evening peak. And the much vaunted aircon...

Terrible news - poor kid & family.
I know it happens everywhere, but I always thought Sydenham was relatively safe compared to a lot of other London areas.

Have I just been unlucky every time I've changed onto the Sydenham line at London Bridge in the evenings since they did away with the through service from Charing Cross, or is everyone here so inured to the situation that they can't be bothered to complain? I especially like the way our late trains...
We've been finding our hot water a bit tempramental over the last week or so - our shower runs off a mixer and it's been doing hot-cold-hot-cold which isn't normal. Guessing it's to do with the gas supply fluctuating a bit due to high demand in the icey weather. I was really glad that I had read th...

Many trains into LB are running very late with short-notice cancellations and there were lots of people on the platforms who couldn't squeeze on this morning. I got on a train at 0855 (no idea what train this was as the 0851 was due at 0915 and the 0840 was cancelled). This eventually arrived at LB ...

Thanks for the reply Simon - I got home ok by changing at Clapham (just in front of the heavy snow by the looks of it, it had laid about 2 inches by the time we got to Syd). Ooh, for a decent chippie in Upper Syd..! Mermaid is a great chippie. Not on a Monday or Tuesday in my opinion - I have often had to throw half my chips away if I go in there on those particular days. I usually stop off at Forest Hill on the way home nowadays if I want to pick up some freshly cooke...
