Re: Windmill Victory

In fairness the new building would have to be compatible with a wheelchair too. It's part of the building code: Building Regulations Document Part M, BS8300. The plans have a disabled toilet in addition to the make and female ones. All bars allow you to buy lime and soda, lemonade and orange juice ...

Re: Windmill Victory

I couldn't agree more Rod with your "shared living room" analogy. I don't want to spend my entire social life speaking only to "like minded" people and I love the sort of pubs that have a real mix of ages and outlooks. As well as being able to table hop and meet people, one of th...

Re: Windmill Victory

Hi Prince Please excuse typos, as I'm on a rather shaky bus! Unfortunately Lewisham removed the Windmill's ACV status following the Windmill's sale to Bernard Construction in April 2016. Legislation permits Councils to do that when there is a "relevant disposal" under the terms of the Act....

Re: Windmill Victory

Hi Mosy The owners have said that there will no access for the pub's customers to the rear of the building and that there's no connect or shared stairs between residential and commercial premises. I'm not sure whether the stairs at the back (a recent addition to the plans after SydSoc sent its comme...

Re: Windmill Victory

Hi Prince I see the confusion. The case officer is referring to the whole of the existing Windmill as being 402sqm. In fact that's just the ground floor. On the first floor, which is approx 300sqm if memory serves, is the beer cellar, loos, a big catering kitchen (most of which hasn't been used for ...

Re: Windmill Victory

Just to clarify: the Windmill as existing is 702sqm. The "as existing" measurements on the case officer's report are a mistake. Wetherspoons said 702sqm is too small for them. And in answer to a couple of questions ... The property developer isn't intending any events like we had before. H...

Re: Dog theft Kemble Road

Can a dog walker really exercise six dogs while keeping them under control? Please don't misunderstand me. This story in the OP is a really distressing thing to have happened. And I'm sure dog walkers offer a useful service for those whose who are no longer physically able to exercise their dogs. Bu...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

Reducing the speed limit is going to make naff all difference to the cars flooring it and then breaking sharply in my road and others around here. I've had 3 do that in the last 25 mins and will probably continue 'till the early hours. It's not the law abiding citizens that cause accidents, it's th...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

Thus proving it has nothing to do with road safety and it's all about revenue raising and ticking the electoral box to claim to have "done something" about road safety. Have you read the research paper on which these decisions have been mainly based? It has been referenced on previous 20m...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

I wonder how much this is costing the Council tax payer? And how that cost would compare with properly targeted 20mph areas (for example, outside schools and where road conditions make it a sensible long term solution that properly addresses air quality ... Def not on hills!) together with some educ...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

From Rachel Onikosi's letter to Lois ... "Good news, I have spoken to the appropriate Council officer who has liaised with the contractor who will cover the 30 mph signs by latest Monday if not completed already. As you know the Borough intends to roll out a 20 mph zone in early September so pr...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

I agree Lee. 20mph better than speed bumps. But as you say it needs to be sensibly implemented, or it will lead to chaos. 20mph suits some roads but not others and definitely doesn't work on hills (apart from as a revenue earner from those caught going downhill). Unfortunately my road (a very steep ...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

Getting back on track ... Surely, once a prohibitory regulatory sign is displayed (in this case, the red bordered circular 20mph sign) then it is an offence to ignore that sign/instruction? The powers that be might choose not to enforce it until a certain date, but how does the road user know that? ...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

Actually Stuart I just think our Councillors would be better putting their energies and our money into finding a solution that properly addressed the problem of pollution AND road safety and that they should have done that before going for a blanket 20mph zone. In other words, some joined up and lon...

Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

... and increase pollution. Especially on hills. I believe this should have at least been debated in the Council chamber. But it was in the local Labour manifesto and Lewisham is now a one party borough. So it wasn't debated. I have asked for sight of the pollution predictions and studies used by Le...

Re: Family History: Wells Road

I believe Windsor Terrace was renamed as Plane Street in 1912. But I think the houses may have fallen victim to post WW2 redevelopment, as I think they are all modern houses there now. I have some old maps, so will double check.

Hi KittieRox Good luck in your quest to find a photo of your gallant ancestor. As I'm sure you know (but some other readers may not) 156 was a Pathfinder squadron (Motto: We light the way"). In other words, the bravest of the brave. Not only had Squadron Leader Anset been awarded the DFC, but t...
