Re: The foul mess at The Woodman

We used to have a motto in our school of engineering.

"buy cheap,....buy twice"

It seems W&S have paid over the odds for a job that is still not completed.

It would seem todays young "Managers" cannot organise a social in a brewery,.... :(

Re: WANTED: IMAGES FOR GREYHOUND MURAL

Hi Lee. I sent you a couple of pictures a while back of my dog finding a WW2 bomb in Sydenham Hill Woods last year. Steve Grindlay would be the best source (as he has assisted me before), but a lot of stuff is copyrighted these days , so you have to be very careful what you can use. I have some sugg...

Re: Old Floor Zone shop let

Anything would be better than Floor Zone. I tried to give them my business and they just weren't interested. Snooty and rude. Not just me then? Stuart You too? I thought they just didn't like the cut of my jib! Did anyone succeed In buying flooring from them? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://...

Re: Police stations closing

There are a number of logistical reasons why a police station is needed, and not just for the Front Desk. Parking of vehicles and changing area, are but two that spring to mind. I seem to recall the idea being mooted that if the police station on Dartmouth Road was closed, then officers would have t...

Re: green food hygiene stickers

i think it's very poor to put these ratings on the internet (and probably other sources), without a regular update as to what is happening , and why.

I completely agree with Billings/amob on this one.

Re: green food hygiene stickers

Some of the results are a bit concerning. Billings was low Also Blue Mountain cafe got a score of '1' from October last year. Some businesses even got scores of '0'. I would hope that low-scoring businesses would be given a strict timetable to get their hygiene up to standard, so they can be re-visi...

Re: Cycling on Sydenham's pavements

4.30pm today. I witnessed two black teenagers whizzing down Kirkdale pavement toward Cobbs corner, with total disregard for pedestrians. I was unable to get my camera quick enough. So do we distinguish between reckless lawbreakers, and considerate lawbreakers.? Personally, i feel the mature woman se...

Re: Will you use the new Greyhound Pub?

interestingly, the new Greyhound could set a benchmark to attract other pubs and customers to the area. Stefan is quite right that Forest Hill has a diverse number of pubs, in close proximity, that attract diverse clientlle. The Hob, with it's rock and comedy The capital, with it's typical wetherspo...

Re: Contesting a parking ticket - any experience?

Most people contesting a parking ticket get let-off. Trying to pursue a legal route is too costly. I am no lawyer, but I think you have valid grounds for contesting, in that the signs clearly indicate you can park there. As an aside, this Tuesday i witnessed a traffic enforcer giving a ticket to a c...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound

it is often part of Planning Procedure/Permission that a certain % of a development is given to social housing. This is obviously a big concern to Developers who want to maximise profit, but it is totally at the Local Authorities discretion as to what % is allocated. (subject to negotiation)

Re: The Woodman

i have to throw my tuppence (for what it's worth) into the fray. I think Forums like this are useful discussion points for new developments. Sometimes the praising comments get lost in the critiques, but overall are well-intended. Taking the Woodman as an example, ....would anyone really have been h...

Re: Cycling on Sydenham's pavements

i did ponder about whether to remove the photo. I didn't want the discussion to become centred around 1 individual. However, whatever her age or community standing, she is breaking the law. If i had photos of reckless yoof riding on pavements, I would equally have posted those. and intend to. And wh...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound

The issues Gilly raises regarding cars are quite crucial. However near the station/bus stop you are, and however many cycle racks you include on a development, inevitably a large proportion of residents will be car owners. It is simply unrealistic to expect people to do family shopping, buying of fu...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound

i know gillyjp was not best pleased with the proposed development as it went for Planning. So it is refreshing to hear some positive words about the buildings. However, i would still guess a significant number of residents would own a car and that the lack of parking for the development will lead to...

Re: Cycling on Sydenham's pavements

Maybe, in a couple of years, when the woman cannot cycle any more, she will be knocked down on the pavement by a cyclist and have to undergo hip replacement surgery.

that would be irony.

Re: Cycling on Sydenham's pavements

Here's a photo of a law-breaker, taken at 7.30 this morning on the Kirkdale pavement close to Panmure Road http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8288/7494144032_149c8e33cb.jpg There was no need for this woman to be cycling on the pavement. Indeed, if she feels so unsafe cycling on the road, maybe her bicycl...
