Re: Aldi
Whilst it would be better than being empty, we don't exactly need an Aldi almost next door to Lidl. It's just more of the same. Have you even been to Lidl? The olive oil is one of the best you can buy. The gravadlax is delicious too! https://www.goodhousekeeping.co.uk/institute/food-reviews/extra-v...
Re: Aldi
Aldi and Lidl, are cheap and not what the high street needs. Why strive for bottom of the barrel, when we can aim for much higher. So when are you going to contact Waitrose or are you just going to post here and criticise me and my preferences? Lidl isn't cheap it's good value, life is great when y...
Aldi
So I contacted Aldi to suggest the old budgens. What does everyone else think?

Thanks D-W - a sensible and balanced view. I want to point out to local gastronomes that I haven't formally opposed your chicken shop - I have just given my opinion (ad nauseam) here. What I find quite shocking is seeing alcoholics buying booze at 7am from the various 24hr shops but that's just me!

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
It's just a restaurant. It doesn't sell fried chicken. Why is obesity suddenly an issue when no one is exactly picketing outside all the fast food restaurants (pizza, fried chicken) we have? The food at Nando's is not particularly fattening: grilled chicken. Where I lived previously there was oppos...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I have just had an extremely useful conversation with the Acquisition Manager at Nandos. They inform me that they have provided yet further information as requested by Lewisham Planners. I won't go into all the matters discussed however they are keen to progress with this venture. For information t...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
So I would ask those that want to stop Nando's to think again. To accept that while they may not like it - unless it is likely to cause a disproportionate nuisance to them they should not object. It is not their role to decide where or what I or others eat. It really should be the market who decide...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Where I lived previously there was opposition to Nando's ostensibly because it was a chain, but actually because if racism. It was perceived as a restaurant black people liked. I wonder if something similar is going on here? I'm not sure that kind of innuendo is helpful here appletree. It's a horri...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Nando's don't use free-range chickens so they can get to *&^! as far as I'm concerned. Keep these bastards out of our town! And close Sainsburys next door down too? We either ban particular animal husbandry practices at national level - or, as long as they are clearly labelled, allow us to choo...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Seven months and counting and still the application has yet to be determined. Why? I am sure that there are a number of reasons. However I have been very reliably informed that one of the objections was made by someone following a conversation that they had with a person who works at the dolphin, w...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I understand from the planner dealing with the case that they are requiring further clarification about the takeaway/delivery service associated with Nandos - on what basis I do not understand. The planner says if they do not receive this information they are minded to grant planning permission wit...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Thanks prince for your latest assessment and proposal which sounds very encouraging if it flies. It makes a lot of sense since Nando's objective is to open a restaurant. It seems anomalous that if a council planner is working in the public's best interest that said public is not allowed to know on ...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
I have just rung the Lewisham planning department who have informed me that they are now awaiting a revised transport note from the applicant for they do not think that the revised one submitted in August was adequate. It is now 6.5 months since this application was originally submitted. Thanks for...

Re: Cycle lanes
Agreed sod the quick wins - go for something big like getting cycle lanes put in at the Bell Green gyratory, and up Perry Hill, and Southend Lane. Agreed! Sydenham has been targeted for managed decline while other parts of the borough get more than their fair share. Lewisham councillors are disrespe...

Re: Cycle lanes
they are probably understaffed - if it's anything like the london borough highways team that I work for, they will be mostly fire fighting queries, and other more pressing work, whilst being under funded, and under resourced, with budget cuts every year it's sometimes difficult to get 'none urgent'...
