Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
The planners are admitting a 1 metre excess height based on plans, but I believe it is more like 3 metres.Tom Copley our new councillor is pressing them to investigate this further. In planning terms, even 1 metre is a massive breach.

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
Yes, Lewisham has acknowledging that there are planning breaches on the St Philip Neri school redevelopment. Chris Best writes in the new Syd Soc newsletter, on page 4. "I know a number of residents are concerned with the look of the new Our Lady and At Philip Neri School. The planning departme...

Re: sticky:Mural?
I was absolutely thrilled to see that the derelict signboard has been removed from forecourt of the Dolphin, leaving an attractive London stock brick wall. Clearly the landlord, freeholder, undertaker and Clear Channel, each of whom denied ownership, finally got together and agreed it could go. Yay!...

For details of the St Philip Neri issues, see the topic strand.
It would be great if people involved in the Fun Palace events could post some information here for us to read. Despite attending the last Assembly, I am not at all sure I know what a Fun Palace actually is!

Re: Trees in Lewisham
Dear GrowSydenham and Tim, As you will see, my original post was a round up of current tree related issues and by no means a stand against all development. I understand woodland management, and the importance of felling, coppicing and pollarding in maintaining small urban remnants of ancient woodlan...

Re: Trees in Lewisham
It's a huge subject. I am passionate about creating more social housing, but not at the cost of safety for the tenants. The Gateway block, which requires tree felling, would narrow the single access road to the entire estate, which would potentially restrict access to emergency services. Nor has the...

Re: Trees in Lewisham
The posher areas are prioritised, because their residents complain vigorously.. Fairlawn Park was not touched for many years, and all requests were ignored. We had to tackle ourselves a tree that regularly blocks the pavement. All ignored until a crew arrived at midnight to brutally over-pollard an ...

Re: The Monstrosity - ie St Philp Neri school building
Updates: sorry for the delay, but I was giving people the time to announce their positions on this topic. After 3 weeks, I have decided I can't wait any longer, as time is pressing. The meeting with the Syd Soc committee went well, and they agreed to take action, starting with getting the issue form...

Trees in Lewisham
With the widespread distress over the felling of mature trees in Beckenham Place Park, we might look around for other threats to our trees. The plans for the expansion of housing at the Hillcrest Estate have been drawn up blithely unaware that the estate trees are a protected remnant of the Great No...

Re: Seen any swifts flying around?
They don't alight onto telephone wires, or oto the ground, as their legs and feet are miniscule; they are either flying high, or in the nest.

Re: Penge Homebase closed - now Bunnings warehouse
Having sold the whole chain for a pound, the buyer might be able to revert to the Homebase brand, and salvage it. This seems a good site and hopefully it will carry on somehow. Homebase didn't have an image problem, it was rebranded as a vanity exercise by an ill-informed buyer who wanted to make a ...

Re: Former Carnival shop
It is such a shame that there is no interest in a cafe here. Given the pocket square, trees and wide pavements, it has better air quality than the high street, & would be a lovely place to sit with a coffee.

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
I think it would make the best ever adventure playground. You could have zip wires and abseiling, trampolines and climbing walls. It would use the structure for a positive new use, and the local kids somewhere to have fun.

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road
I think the new designs look absolutely brilliant. The design quality is high and the way it fits into its surroundings is excellent. My sole reservation is the brick colour, as I find the grey odd given the local use of London stock. A modern buff coloured brick would be better imo. As for criticis...

Re: Sainsbury's news
There is already a Costa at Bell Green, within the Next store. I don't give much for the store's life expectancy though.... A coffee chain at Bell Green is fine, but I would be appalled by one on the high street, when we have such brilliant independent coffee shops.
