Re: Planetary Disaster Averted - Ozone Layer Healing
Angela, that's an interesting view. According to Wikipedia: the human race sent representatives to a conference held in Montreal in 1987 which agreed the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances that are respo...

Obviously, the book group won't be able to meet for some time - certainly not in late March.
I'll post on here when we know a meeting will again be possible.
Stay safe!

Sydenham Book Group - February
Four of us gathered in the Golden Lion to discuss The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. We had quite a long and very lively discussion about this book. It was quickly established that the author's account of the escape of slaves in the years before the start of the Civil War (which began in ...

Sydenham Book Group - January
Sorry four of you were unable to attend tonight. Liz, Stuart and I were there to discuss Milkman by Anna Burns . Thanks to Sue for sending her review which was I probably wouldn't have read it if it hadn't been chosen for the group as it had so many negative reviews. I enjoyed it and wanted to finis...

Re: Sydenham book club needs new members
Hi Alice,
Yes, definitely! Our next meeting is Wednesday 27th November at about 7.30/8.0 in the Golden Lion. We're reading Exit West by Mohsin Hamid. It's available in libraries and on Amazon second hand for not very much.
Will you be able to make that date?

Re: Replacing windows
My advice would be to replace with the sash windows. We had 60s style double-glazed in our Victorian property, which were useless in hot weather. Then a few years ago we replaced them with double-glazed wooden sash windows, which make the house look MUCH better. Even better, they've enabled us to co...

How much air pollution around your house?
<r>Here's the website address <URL url="www.addresspollution.org"><s></s>www.addresspollution.org<e></e></URL> - see how polluted your home is - plus you can send an email to Lewisham (or Bromley) about your concerns through the website. Plus it gives you a link to share on social media.<...

I'm not sure why no one has replied to your query, but have a look at this website which shows the location of primaries on a map (you can zero in on Sydenham) and where their catchments have extended to in recent years. Adamsrill and St Bart's seem to cover your area. https://www.locrating.com/scho...

Re: Petition. Lewisham isn't working: end the directly-elected mayoral system now
I wish this campaign every success, BUT if Bromley is anything to go by, it won't make much difference. Bromley doesn't have an elected mayor, but similarly to Lewisham, everything is sorted by the Tory leader of the council and his cabal, and the general council meetings are rather a sham, especial...

I used Mandells, who were recommended on the Penge Tourist Board site on FB. They were efficient, quick and reasonably priced.
