If I may refocus this thread on the original topic, is this further evidence of Penge's rise compared to dear old Sydders? "Not just a date for your diary – a genuine local issue. Can a Farmers’ market sustain itself in Penge? Saturday June 6th is the important date. Thanks to the determination...

In whta way do you think it's crap? The main issue I have with the Penge Lidl is that it doesn't have any car parking.

parker, I expect Lidl has suddenly realised that it CAN compete with the likes of Sainsbury's, so it might as well make a little more effort with its shop design. You are right, the Penge Lidl is really nice compared to Sydders... mind you, the one in Beckenham is truly horrible and really cheap, ev...

Scorpion, If I were you I would get on to them and have a go at them. I did that last year in a similar situation, and they gave me a reduction (each month) straight away. I queried their policy which seems to discriminate against current customers, but they said it wasn't practical to contact all t...

I've never had any trouble with Virgin - broadband - very reliable, not bad speed. Phone - great, cheapish. Cable TV - the odd glitch, nothing serious though.
Guess I've just been lucky?

Ronski, We bought a tree in a pot 2 years ago and the guy we bought it from said we could keep it in the pot for a year and bring it in again for another Christmas, which we did (last year). After that we planted it out, and it is doing well! My mother in law has a whole line of Xmas trees growing i...

Hi Fishcox Alleyns is seriously hard to get into, but if you can it is worth it. Lovely school, highly academic but very caring. Also superb on the sport - they are mixed, so only have half the number of boys as some rivals, but still manage to run huge numbers of teams. They are also tops at drama,...

Has anyone noticed how much the gas pressure varies?

I have been meaning to post this puzzling question for several weeks now, but have only just remembered to: We have found that usually, when you light a gas jet on our hob, the pressure is quite low, often you need to move a pan onto a more powerful jet. then - randomly after say 10 minutes, all the...

I am concerned that the provision for cycling in the plans seems absent (other than the odd image of a cycle chained to a parking point). Surely in any development like this more provision should be built in? We need to encourage walking, use of buses and cycling in the face of climate change. It is...

I've just heard a rumour in the checkout at Sainsbury's (wow!) that Penge Homebase is closing, to be an Asda!
(Personally, I don't think that is very likely as the site isn't great for a supermarket like that? I wonder what others think?)

Penge moving ahead of Sydenham?

I see that Wilkinsons - a useful short of shop which we don't have in this area (nearest in Orpington?) is opening soon in Penge - in the Blenheim Centre next to Iceland. Also, a new Lidl is opening almost opposite Sainsbury's - in the old Edgington furniture store. Two very good additions. Is Penge...

Referring to DaveT's good point, Competition watchdogs will most probably require some of the Somerfield stores to be sold - with other food retailers to be interested in any of the disposals. I can't see how the competition aspect would be relevant in Sydenham's case - after all, we're not inundate...

I well remember the SCH - we took our youngest there in 1986 when she was unwell. They were lovely there. It closed a year or two after that I think. It is strange about there not being a decent fish & chip shop in Sydenham. I ten to use the Blue Dolphin in Penge which is quite good. Fish shops ...

I can also vouch for El Molino - had some great tapas there, as well as a more normal style dinner too. They had a funny welsh waitress the last time. She was great. If you can go to Crystal Palace, I'd recommend Lorenzo's also, but also try La Numidie (North african/French) - great, Joanna's (lots ...
