Did he come down from the mountaintop with the Ten Commandments demanding that God be sacked for delaying his passage through the pearly gates because of a problem with his ticket? When Oystercards arrive in six weeks time, almost all of the problems associated with ticket purchase, awkward staff on...

Yes - Oyster PAYG fares will be cheaper than paying by cash.

Please note that this is for PAYG and does not include season tickets (which are already highly discounted).

Oystercard PAYG starts in January

Great to see that Oystercard PAYG has finally been confirmed to start on all suburban metropolitan lines - including local stations such as Sydenham, Penge East and Sydenham Hill - on January 2 2010. TfL has issued a map showing the area be covered by Oystercard from January. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/a...

Lee - I did not intend in any way to upset you. I know that both you and I are very committed to changing Sydenham. I just wanted to find out from you what importance you attach to the look of a place in relation to other factors. Surely the reason that the butcher in Lower Sydenham has to decided t...

Lee - if they open a butchers shop in East Dulwich which looks exactly like the one they've just left in Lower Sydenham it will be highly successful. Your belief - that the aesthetic look of a place is THE essential ingredient to success is, frankly, total nonsense. You surely cannot seriously belie...

Here you are: Good news 1. Transport for London (TfL) are already running the stations between East Croydon and London Bridge. This means that all local stations, including Sydenham, are now staffed throughout the day “from first to last train” meaning a far safer and more secure environment for pas...

Gaz - you are correct in saying that local politicians supporting the reinstatement of the South London Line or a new line from Bellingham to Victoria are threatening our local services. Alex F...

The next Sydenham Assembly meeting on the 3rd December will discuss the Naborhood Centre, its future use and a possible change of name (should people decide that the name should be changed). Personally, I'd favour something "all encompassing" direct and simple like "The Sydenham Centr...

Can't really follow that!

But some more information on the new set of flats. There are 23 units (only four of them are one bedroom). A single commercial unit is included and it will not be able to serve hot food. The newsagent currently on site is to be allowed first refusal of this unit.

Delighted to see that the petition supporting the new road scheme is now over the 500 mark. Please sign this if you haven't already done so - or watch out for the paper petition in the high street. http://www.petitiononline.com/sydroad/petition.html Here's a scheme for Oxford Street announced in the...

Trawlerman - I simply can't agree with your cynical view in relation to this development. This simply isn't a case of "Owner wants, owner gets" as you suggest. A run down building with a number of unwanted retail premises will be turned into new homes. There isn't a element of crude commer...

It would be crazy to rebuild retail units at this location. Shops here have always been marginal - they've become practically untenable since the arrival of the Savacentre across the road. Build retail units and they'd largely remain empty. To read some of the contributions above, you'd believe that...

Not too late to sign the on-line petition - and look out for the paper petition in and around Sydenham Road. What is wonderful is to hear from so many people who signed the previous petition but were fed distortions and downright misinformation about the scheme in order to induce them to sign. For e...

Mt Tiggins - Can I suggest that you come down to the exhibition in the old curtain shop (corner of Queensthorpe Road/Sydenham Road) - open this evening from 5pm-8pm and tomorrow (Saturday) from 1am-3pm. Commonsense - you make some extremely good points. Things currently don't look good on Sydenham Road. But there is great hope for the first time in 20-30 years that things may genuinely be changing: 1. The £3.5m road improvement scheme is a great deal more than daffodils on the roundabout. I wouldn't be so confident that these plans will go ahead without a show of local support Chazza. What TfL have is a petition opposing the scheme. The petition is signed by local people - have a look through the names. They may be misguided and most may have signed without knowing details of the sch...
