I've talked to Michael Stringer. I think you make some good points Weeble. A quick glance at the current timetable shows what effect these proposed cuts in the early evening timetable from LB will mean. Between 4pm and 8pm, Southern currently provide 23 Sydenham-bound trains from LB. Their aim is to...

The 70/30 split is a very transparent and easy piece of data to uncover. You question passengers currently using local rail services about their exact travel destination (with a post code if possible). In the case of most commuters it's the same location each day. Then you work out (using geographic...

TfL estimate (and this coincides with polls carried out by the Sydenham and FH Societies) that 30% of existing passengers will choose to travel on the new ELL. That still leaves 70% of passengers still travelling on the existing service to LB - so it's vital that we don't allow the LB service to be ...

Evening rush hour trains from LB cut by one third in 2010

I’m afraid that we have uncovered a further piece of bad news for local rail users. From May 2010, Southern intend to cut evening rush hour services from LB from 6 trains per hour to 4tph. Southern will look at the situation again in December 2010 (when they have a delivery of extra carriages) to se...

There isn't an assumption built into the new timetable that the City or East End will be favoured more than our existing route into LB. During the rush hours, trains to and from LB will still have the capacity to carry more passengers than the ELL. And from 2012, we will have 10 and 12 carriage trai...

Poppy - agree with you entirely about the need to preserve our off-peak services to London Bridge - so hope to see you at the meeting on the 17th September, 7.30pm at the Naborhood Centre to discuss this issue. But I'm surprised to find someone still arguing that the new East London Line is "po...

No reason why Shadwell has been omitted except my incompetence. I've now edited this. Thank you Gaz. Glad to see someone's paying attention! Bensonby - I am just waiting to hear from Southern where the two extra trains per hour heading south during the peak are going to end up - East or West Croydon...

My deepest apologies Bensonby - I should, of course, have said two trains per hour to EC (not one) and four to WC. This is a slip up on my part and is in no way a reflection of the very accurate information supplied to me by senior managers at Southern and TfL when I met with them. In other words, t...

Yes - there will be no through trains to Sutton. But there will be four (ELL) trains per hour to W Croydon and 1 (Southern) train per hour to E Croydon. There are regular services from both EC and WC to Sutton. After June 2010, we will find that "long distance" trains coming from and going...

I went to the Meet the Managers meeting at LB this morning. This is what I discovered. The important thing to grasp is that there will be two future Southern timetables – one in December 2009 and one in May 2010 prior to the start of the new ELR: 1. In December there will be no significant changes t...

Bensonby - I don't think we agree on this topic. It is a huge setback to have trains from Charing Cross axed, especially for the many people in this area who work late night in theatres and music venues in the West End - and those attending theatres and music venues. People have already made these p...

Just hold on a minute! Trains direct to Charing Cross may be axed but there will still be 6 trains per hour during the peak period and 4 trains per hour during the off peak period (to and from LB). It's just that none of them willl start or terminate at Charing Cross. Until the new time table arrive...

SAF photos - last chance to view

Longing for the return of the Arts Festival? You'll just have to wait for another year I'm afraid. But if you want to relive some of the best moments of SAF in a series of striking photographs, these are now available on slideshows in the window of Arbico, Kirkdale Bookshop and Robert Stanford in FH...

There will be a public meeting at the Naborhood Centre in Mid September (date and times to be confirmed) at which our new rail links will be discussed with speakers from ELL and Southern. This is the time to find out details of what's proposed and a time to organise any protest if this is what is ne...

Direct Trains to and From Charing Cross to be axed

As you probably know, Southern have retained the franchise to operate trains to and from London Bridge and Victoria on our line until July 2015. All eyes are now on the new Southern timetable to see whether they live up to their promise of increased investment and services. The first signs aren't go...

Everything that's good and promising about SE26 has happened because someone has made an effort and got out from behind their computer screen and done something about it. I am delighted by the idea of a mosaic and I am very keen to see this idea progress. The building will be repaired and refurbished before the mosaic is done as has been pointed out above - so that argument has already been settled. 80% of the cost of the mosaic will be paid for by funds which are cu...

I am a member of the coordinating committee. I'm on this committee since I believe that meetings such as local Assemblies can play a great part in improving our local area and encouraging debate about local affairs. Assemblies also play a role in financing local events. For example, without funds fr...
