Re: Where / how to make friends in Sydenham?
The library on Dartmouth Rd has a good range of papers ksyd, including local ones that might have ads from local clubs etc. Forums can be quite entertaining in themselves and good for local knowledge re what's on (and real) etc, you might have found the SE23, Sydenham Society and other locals? Best ...

Re: ANY MEMORIES OF THE OAK HOUSE DRAMATISTS?
I'm sure there's a club Ali, for older people to exchange memories (over tea and biscuits kind of thing). The town hall might be able to help with contact details, open times etc.
There's definitely an ex-shop front in Blackheath announcing itself as one, across the road from the train station.

Re: Squatters have just moved in
Does anyone know the property is council-owned and what it has to do with them? I think that by default properties that have been empty for 10yrs and show no sign of being owned by a living person should become so but - as far as I know - that's not yet so. If evidence is made of electicity being us...

Re: Squatters have just moved in
I'm sure all squatters are not simply thieves. Some do have a legitimate point to make. Aren't the group (chap photo'd) in the Telegraph article the ones who'd been in 'Fitzrovia' for a couple of years, close by Malcom McLaren's old place ... running something like a posh commune ? There is a lot wr...

Tskkk .... it's a safe climbing and exploring place. Non-slip surfaces and padded mats, I've got some funny pics from my days back and forth

Re: Squatters have just moved in
Ooooh let's band together and put a massive hex on them, along the lines of hoping that when they do get chucked out they find that wherever they vacated has also been claimed ..... I also used to empathise with squatters at the time when there were ridiculous numbers of empty properties because tax...

Re: East London Line trains to Highbury start on Monday morn
Given that the new destinations route is only a week old I daresay allowance is being made for people who rely on the information being where it is most needed at the time of need ..... at least until a service has bedded in and customers become au fait.

Yes D but I should have been more objective though and admitted that owners also reap the same un-earned rewards when areas improve.

Re: ex-Proctors Estate Agents
If the average house price range in Sydenham is now £350-400k and commission is around 3% (or £10-12k), estate agents have made huge gains from the benefits that the recent Ofsted reports and better public transport have brought. 'Earnings' would be the wrong word; 'made' not being the same as 'earn...

Re: Penge High Road /Maple Road event
Wheelchair users have priority over pushchairs and I've been on a bus where two of the latter were put off for one. I've got very mixed feelings about the preponderence now for babies to be isolated from their carer so that when they have a whimper they just get rocked instead of being held and give...

It's absolutely shameful that the 'govt' have allocated increased funds for Sure Start but not ringfenced them.
How dare they try earning brownie points for increasing when all it actually boils down to is a 'do with it what you wish' amount

Amazing that 30 or so people left another train a few minutes later but I must admit that if I try to recall what are normally humdrum situations I fail.

I don't think the two JWs were actually comparing you to hitler Syd; I don't suppose their 'job' is easy and some must be so taken aback when anyone actually answers the door to them that wits take time to catch up. ------------------ It is a shame imhoo that humans ascribe credit and blame to the w...

I've never heard that Hitler was religious or practising although he was born Catholic, never renounced it and has never been excommunicated.
