However, the problem was that actually a train had broken down at Honor Oak Park and so the trains that should have stopped at Syd had to by-pass us. I can recall a passenger being taken ill at Forest Hill which had the same effect, trains through Sydenham being diverted onto the fast lines up the ...

Even if you could somehow ensure that the infrastructure was top-notch and the rolling-stock was clean, tidy and perfectly maintained, you would still have late running trains, because you would still have problems occuring that are not caused by any of the (far too many IMHO) railway companies. Peo...

.....They are as a proportion of a 15 minute journey though... This is the other problem when passengers complain. They naturally have a very self-centred view of their journey....they go for their train from their station and if their train is late or cancelled they are not happy. This is absolute...

Flipside of that coin....what's the problem with having information that needs to be given to people on the screen that people look at the most?!!! Or indeed what's the problem with people reading the information on a poster? ....Icy lines, yeah mate heard it all before... Maybe so, but nobody has y...

...is there a reason you can't run more trains instead? ... Yes. They all have to GO somewhere. There are only a finite number of platforms at London Bridge, Charing X, Caterham, Sutton, etc. More trains means finding more platforms. Easier to lengthen platforms than to completely redesign a whole ...

....it's the train companies fault the trains are overcrowded... Not exactly. If Network Rail were to lengthen platforms, the train operators could run longer trains. ....Southern's comical explanations for delays, for example those caused by last week's "poor rail conditions"..... Check ...

Would you rather just hear "your xxxx Southern service to xxxxxxxx is xxx minutes late. Bad luck."?? :D

Seriously, icy rails are a genuine problem. Think about it, in your car, you drive round the icy patch. Where does the train go? Over the icy rail, or nowhere.

I gotta tell you, as someone who's just moved from Forest Hill to Sydenham, I'm more impressed with the shops in Syd than I was with FH's, seems to me FH is going downhill a little.

Although the Sainsburys in FH knocks spots off the Somerfield in Syd.

But Savacentre trumps them both :-)

As a (fairly new) member of Southern staff this is a very interesting thread!!! (I don't wear uniform so don't try and stalk me :D :D ) I wanna ask you all, what winds you up most about Southern's services? Does anything puzzle you about the way trains run and the things that happen? Perhaps I can b...
