I've got two ideas for contacts Gaz. As the train operator running the services you travel on into London Bridge, you could try Southern http://www.southernrailway.com/main.php?page_id=674 Or, perhaps a better idea is to contact Network Rail, who manage London Bridge and would be the organization wh...

I've done early shifts roughly every other week since last August, catching the 0601 to Sutton. It's been late about 3 times and never been cancelled.

Like Bensonby, I cannot confirm if it's the main reason for signal failures, but it is common - there was an incident on the line between Sittingbourne and Sheerness a few days back. It is true that a fair proportion will be down to wear and tear. This of course being Network Rail's responsibility r...

Is the japanese underground system privately owned or government-funded? If you have the government of the world's 2nd-biggest economy throwing enough money at something, i'm sure it'll run to the minute. Still....the "should we have privatised British Rail or not" can of worms is best lef...

I think Ronski's put it very well. If your subject is aware they are being photographed (or if spontaneity is an issue, your subject is made aware after the event that they have been photographed) and is okay with it, everyone else should be okay with it. For the record, though, Paul, I completely a...

Is there no chance that if they know a train is going to be late at its final desination. They could put on another train to start the return journey, and keep the other train back? Yes, of course. Southern Control can miraculously magic a train and a driver out of nowhere to suddenly appear at a s...

When I lived in Forest Hill I posted on se23.com Now I live in Sydenham I post here. I believe that if you decide you are going to join a forum to discuss local issues, you need to be a member of just one forum - the most appropriate one to your location. Having said that, if you find you have made ...

I don't think it is too much to expect for a train service to run to the advertised times. When you consider the multitude of events that can cause an individual train to run late (and by late, I mean your definition of late, as little as a minute or two) and when you consider that a fair proportio...

I get the first train some mornings which is never on time. It comes up on the screen delayed and then 10 minutes later it comes up again cancelled! Then everyone flees too the bus stops. Has made me late for work on many occassions! :x I want to explain the kinds of reasons behind this sort of occ...

Yes, Chazza, this is sound advice whether ticket machines are okay or not. In the days when I didn't work for the railways and paid for my ticket, I used to renew my weekly ticket on the way home on a Friday night. They can be dated to start after your current one finishes. But yeah, it's pretty cra...

yes, but 4 minutes late is still pretty late....especially if you are only getting on a 12 minute train journey. It's increasing your journey time by a 1/3. You may have only been on the train for 12 minutes, but its complete journey from beginning to end is likely to have been rather longer. I hav...

Southern performance figures

On Thursday, almost 98% of Southern's services ran within 5 minutes of time.

This is the best performance figure for a weekday since the current franchise began.

So all you Southern-bashers...

Seems that the new machines are in place and working, and I believe they will indeed be able to cope with Oyster, although thatfunction hasn't gone live just yet.
