Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

I wasn't including the local councillors in my dismissal, Lee. I also know there are (or were) a few decent council workers who try to help where they can but the leadership of Bromley council will never instinctively look out for Penge. Hardly surprising when it and CP are the London bits of the co...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

The investment is all to see in Bromley's Penge, yet we can't even get decent lamp post flags which don't fall off in a light breeze. I really wouldn't give Bromley the credit for any work in Penge. The current High Street improvements are only happening because of an award from the GLA and general...

Anybody know why Grannies Goodies closed down? I now it was an odd shop run by an eccentric owner but it had been there a while.

They move around for their own safety so that's their current address. I've never seen them around Penge though apparently she did go to Cator Park School

The Alex in Penge now does food. It's only just over the border and does great beer too.

I think as the prices are clearly stated now and there are cheap quality options as well as the more pricey ones, it's all good. And I too like trying different beers so approve of the schooner glasses.

I did a four pub crawl last night (Goldsmiths, Moon & Stars, Southey and Alex). All terrific and offering something different from each other.

Not a fan of Jim but if the election focuses on Hard Brexit v soft Brexit / Remain as is likely, then he is definitely in latter camp, which reflects the local electorate

I believe the retail part is being reduced in size to increase possibility of rental before becoming a cafe. The rear will presumably become residential.

Re: The Alexandra is open - at last

Oh and while you're in Penge, checking out the Alex, make sure you also visit the Southey taproom at the brewery (opened 5-10, Fridays and Saturdays). It's run by the former head brewer of Late Knights from the same building but with new kit and a whole range of better beers.

Re: The Alexandra is open - at last

It's a terrific place and beer drinkers can celebrate that they have already had draught options from Southey, London Beer Factory, Gipsy Hill and Adnams as well as an amazing bottle choice of some of London's finest independent craft producers.

Re: Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?

Good review in the standard tonight. Sydenham is a booming independent cafe hotspot apparently! Can you send the link please? I can't find it on the ES website That article was a little odd. It also called Lewisham a cafe hotspot too. It went on to describe how Sydenham was now seeing lots of new b...

I'd be absolutely amazed if it wasn't an Antic pub. Penge will get its second Antic next year so it can't be long before Sydenham has one.

Lee is correct. Everything is relative and it was a low starting point but in the last two to three years: New community events: - Halloween Trail and Easter Trail events for children on High Street. Both attracted 100s of families - Penge Day - a large community event in August - Pengelicious, a ne...

Re: Penge At Christmas, 10th December

It's a few stalls selling gifts, a craft beer purveyor, rides, a santa's grotto and lots of music acts on a stage. All on the High Street. Starts at 11 and finishes at 4.
