Re: Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

Yes but there is a small 20 mph sign on the way down the hill shortly before the camera which is hidden by trees until you are right on top of it. If you came out of Sydenham Hill (which, incidentally is going back to 30 mph soon) there are large 30 mph signs. Drivers who are worried about the camer...

Speed Camera Westwood Hill - Which speed???

I know that the whole borough is going to 20 mph and I think that in Sydenham that will come into force on the 5th September, but until then the 20 mph signs should be covered. This is very confusing and could prove quite dangerous! http://allmywebsites.co.uk/pics/CameraWestwoodHill/CameraWestwoodHi...

Cranes at Forest Hill causing nightmare traffic problems

Avoid Forest Hill today, especially Sydenham Rise, London Road and Honor Oak Road!

It's chaos!
If I'd have known I'd have cancelled at least one of my driving lessons!

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

I wonder how many of these road-ragers simply don't know the speed limit on Sydenham Hill is 20mph? Because it seems so unlikely the limit would be that low on this road, I think it needs to be really flagged up. The last time I drove on it, there were teeny-tiny signs at the entrance to the road, ...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Just to illustrate how dangerous the situation is on Sydenham Hill... was driving 20mph past the speed cameras. Huge tractor behind me was almost pushing me forwards and at the same time making rude hand gestures out of the window. Then overtook, accompanied by loud beeping, on the wrong side of th...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

As per Tim Lund's suggestion I have decided to introduce myself to the posters on this thread via my web site. I have realised that despite my first post here being back in 2008 I have not often got involved and so despite me using my real name as my username here many would not know who I am. I wou...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Agree that Southend Lane road surface made driving 'fast' very uncomfortable and rattley - maybe that's the answer: let road surfaces deteriorate. If your first car was in the eighties then it sounds that you missed the days when it was the norm not to have seat belts fitted, and not socially unacc...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

For the avoidance of doubt, and apologies if I suggested otherwise (but I don't know where), but I do not think there is ever an absolute safe speed irrespective of conditions - a safe speed (which can be zero in some conditions) is dependant on conditions. Because of the many who don't adjust ther...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Mosy, my car 'dings' when I exceed the limit that I have set myself using the speed limiter. I can hit the accelerator hard to turn the limiter off if I need speed in order to avoid a collision and don't have time to use the control on the steering wheel and cannot believe the suggestion from Eagle ...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Thank you Tim! Yes it is Lois (as in 'Lois Lane' or 'Lois Maxwell' who used to play Miss Moneypenny) and not Louis! In reply to Sydenhams post - as I have already said more than once in this thread adjusting the driving speed to suit the road conditions is of course what we are supposed to do and wh...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Tim I think we are in agreement. Chelsea Tractors are common place in our area and they are totally unsuitable for the area. I would imagine they fit in few older garages for a start. I am not sure why most locals need a car full stop . With so many delivery companies no need to collect shopping et...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Widening the geographical scope of the discussion - are there any roads around Sydenham that will be 'unsafer' as a result of the general move to 20 mph? Can anyone think of any? Or is Sydenham Hill the one exception? I think that there are many roads in Sydenham and the Lewisham borough as a whole...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Getting back on topic, yet again today I was the 'pain' on the roads adhering to the speed limits with a long row of cars behind me on several occasions and was overtaken 8 times whilst I myself was driving to and from my pupils! I didn't notice the same effect happening on the opposite side of the ...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

ok - so I think it was badly worded, or I read it wrong, I thought you meant that all (or most) diesel drivers were driving in London, where in fact you meant that most of the diesel drivers you know. Yes upon reading my post back, I agree, it was a little ambiguous. Apologies. I said: "The ex...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

Hi Tim, I read the link you added with interest but surely the statistics they are discussing as far as fixed cameras go are for that immediate area where the fixed camera is installed. How far each side of that fixed camera do those statistics still hold true? I am in no doubt whatsoever that these...

Re: Speed cameras on Sydenham Hill

... will supermarkets really put up prices because a lorry delivery takes a few minutes longer to get somewhere?! I don't think so - most lorries don't get up to 30 anyway do they? driving through London? you're saying that diesel car owners drive mostly in London?! fairly sure that's not true. Wel...
