CP mast was always easier to spot before Crown Castle changed the white flashing strobes to static red lamps, like all the other masts.

By daylight, remember it's the one with the broader base.

Hello Leaf if you class that as a ghetto, you obviously have never seen a real ghetto! I'll retract my last comment about it being a ghetto, was a wrong choice of word. However, you obviously have never seen the gents toilets! I always thought the idea of drains was to take waste away from the area. ...

I had a peek about 6 months ago. (last time I went in there) The tiled area in Steves picture is still pretty much intact, although it is partitioned off for protection and the current bar counter extends underneath the Greyhound Hotel sign . From what I can make out in the picture, the carpeted bit...

Claire Since 1st January 2005 it has been a legal requirement for all electrical work in a bathroom (amongst other locations) in domestic properties to be notified to your Local Building Control by either an Approved electrical...

Fantastic pictures! However, it's easy to look back and see what a catastrophic mistake this was. At the time, it was happening all over the country and the vast majority of the public believed that it was a good thing - sweep away all of these ugly Edwardian and Victorian houses and welcome the hig...

Kent Border

I know this is slightly out of the scope of 'Sydenham', but where is the official border of the county of Kent these days? Some properties in Bromley still state Kent in their address but there is no mention of Bromley, Beckenham, etc on the Kent County Council Website, presumably as it is a London ...

Hi Stuart Although I've only visited a couple of times since its re-opening the atmosphere seems friendly enough - no 'slaughtered lamb' staring from the locals! Like I said above it's still a local boozer; nothing special but I'm glad the new people are trying to clean the place up and handy for th...

It's right at the top of Penge High Street next to Penge West station. Between the two railway bridges.

Not a converted chapel, the only spirits there are in the optics :)

New BHT

I started this thread about a year ago regarding the Bridge House Tavern being a nice place to go for a pint or two. Then embarrassingly, it went downhill and closed down :? However, it's reopened again, with new management. Went there last weekend for a spot of reconnaissance and was quite impresse...

I moved last year from Lawrie Park to near where you describe; although hesitant at first, I have to say it's the nicer part of Penge! As you say, it's equidistant from the two BR stations and whilst being reasonably quiet it's only a 5 minute walk from the main high street. Costcutter is now open 2...
