Alib - I think there is a problem that comedy is a case of being on the same wavelength. If you are not - its rubbish, if you are it is surreal. Its not the same as straight drama where, whether you like it or not, then is a reasonable consensus about what is 'good' and 'bad'. In the end comedy is i...

Have you got any tips on what/how much to eat during the ride? Every website I read says something different. Problem is everybody's needs are different. I swear in a banana filled saddlebag and cake at every stop with Mars bars from petrol stations as a top-up. Simpler, cheaper and more enjoyable ...

Anybody want to join me on a jaunt to Paris starting midnight Thursday July 15th? An overnight troll down to Newhaven (about 60 miles), ferry to Dieppe and if the weather is good a dash to Paris on the Saturday (about 100 miles). Join in the TdF celebrations! Otherwise watch the TdF finish in a cosy...

Well ... to save embarrassment I went in this morning with Admin and declared it well and truly open (very quietly). Was that Robert De Niro behind me in queue?

Are they open yet? (Having just been to Penge Sainsburys as a substitute).
Hey BBW there is a nice little copshop in Maple Road. No nectar points or divi I'm afraid but they are very tasty

No longer do the Westwood Hill - Euston commute but can be spotted pushing a Brommie around Somerfields or Lidl and with an old green Galaxy at Sydenham Station Sunday mornings en route to join the Anerley ride into Surrey & Kent. 129 years of finding the finest Tea Rooms and Country Pubs at a l...

If you're not prepared to pay towards road upkeep, don't moan about bad roads. Paying for road upkeep is not a choice. If you pay council tax or income tax - you are paying for the roads like it or not. "No taxation without representation" suggests we all can and should complain when they...

RIP Karl Edrik

Those of you who remembered Sydenham comic Karl Edrik's unforgettable performances as Bottom the Weaver and the longest ever recorded dying scene as Pyramus in the 2008 performance of Midsummer Night's Dream at The Dolphin will be saddened to hear of his own early death in Goa last month. The funera...

If you are using the Sydenham TX then your ISP is giving you incorrect information. This exchange was upgraded to 21CN last year. This, apart from a short outage, will not have effected your broadband link. ADSL2+ requires 21CN but is not the same. Here is a thread on it: http://sydenham.org.uk/foru...

I go get fresh bread, fruit and stuff from Somerfields (walking or cycling) and occasionally Lidl (great cycle gear sale this week!). Big shops are at Penge Sainsburys (hate Savacentre) and when i can persuade the senior management team - Beckenham Waitrose. We don't eat out much but have enjoyed Tr...

I think you may find that is the old sign. It has been Sydneham for years. At least the one on the bus lane going down Kirkdale has been that way. Its a clever ploy to confuse the dark satanic mass that is Forest Hill when they head south in search of sunlight. Like the Narborhood Centre I think it ...

Alternatively, idiotic pedestrians and inattentive parents could always look where they are going before walking out in front of cars? That would probably help reduce accidents quite a bit. Indeed they should keep off pavements too as rather too many are killed by idiotic and inattentive drivers wh...

Mary, I sympathise with your feelings. I shared them too - once. However one should not allow one's personal experience to over rule compelling evidence. And there is compelling evidence here: http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/339/dec10_3/b4469 The introduction of 20 mph zones was associated with ...

Chris - the point was the study showed that existing London 20 mph zones were indeed effective at reducing deaths and injury. However it was implicit in the report that the humps etc had reduced average road speeds by about 10mph from 27mph to 17mph. It gives no substance to 20 mph zones being effec...

Here is a video taken two days ago. A cyclist is concentrating so hard on avoiding the potholes that he goes too near the parked vehicles and doesn't spot the opening door. Had they collided the cyclist would get the pain and the white van driver the blame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHb-5QpJQH...
