Once upon a time, SydSoc, as FH Soc does still, had its constitution available on line.

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

That would be good news... but old man Sivyer so hates Lewisham Council I wonder if he will be persuaded. He does not need this yard at all. He only keeps it to spite Lewisham because of two compulsory orders that removed the alternative entrances. That's amazing, but somehow I can still believe it...

Re: Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham

One of those varieties has a remarkable capability to spring back into its hole in the ground at incredible speed when a light is shined on it. None of the propreitary treatments has any effect and the fallacy of beer ends up with you being further inundated. The beer simply attracts them. Yes a fa...

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

Interesting suggestion about climate change and resisting sun heat of the future on TV was setting windows back with balconies in front. The new ones on Sydenham Road, Zanara Court, have balconies which I can't figure - why would people want to sit out in traffic fumes plus that side doesn't get th...

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

Interesting piece in today's Guardian about Lidl and other supermarket chains wanting to open lots more stores in the London area and getting past local authority planning by building stores with affordable flats above. I imagine Aldi could be just as receptive if it meant that they would get the g...

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

I agree with the comment from Syd Soc that this a prime site for new housing, and getting more houses built in this area would be a good thing. If consensus is breaking out here, but noting so far no commercial developers are coming forward to convert the gas holders into residential, as might be h...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

Very prescient John H An overpass is certainly the most innovative proposal I have seen since 1993 when the concept was first discussed. The council in fact focused on widening the over-bridge to have two lanes pass under the railway (not over) - and they negotiated, secured and received some £2.08...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

That’s not what is happening here. The point is to use the mechanism to secure something else of value for the area, not just another supermarket or similar addition which lacks ambition. Why should people in Sydenham not be more visionary and have both ambition and expectation of their town planne...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

Cllr Alan Hall posted this on Monday The Sydenham Society have written an objection to the plans to demolish the locally listed Bell Green Gas Holders in Lower Sydenham. Following hot on the heels of the Victorian Society’s objection here, the Sydenham Society go further and request an Article 4 Dir...

Thank you Tim and Tredown Man, it is always fascinating to hear your perspectives. ... It is sad that some members of the forum are so quick to attack, and show such contempt for people who have actually bothered to read the documentation. Not really sure if this is fair, given that I'm the one who...

The roads are narrow there are too many cars and no one can turn a car around once you are in on Vigilant Close you have to reverse back out...Lewisham Homes have not a good record for taking away rubbish or keeping the buildings in good order so that's what will happen again. Some more visionary thinking from Stockholm https://www.dezeen.com/2017/10/30/gasklockan-stockholm-sweden-herzog-de-meuron-piet-oudolf-lola-landscape-architecture/ Converting old gas holders to housing is undoubtedly a nice idea, but given the costs, it will only pay for itself by selling top end f...

Re: Hillcrest Estate development

Just trying to track down some more of the stats given in this petition Lewisham has an appallingly low percentage of greenness - 14% compared to the London average of 20%. Why are you building on an already beautiful green space? According to GiGL - Greenspace Information for Greater London 14.7% o...

Re: Hillcrest Estate development

These are council houses, for 22 homeless families. Of which there are now more than one thousand in this borough. This isn't pristine woodland or rolling parkland being destroyed - it's a number of trees, many substandard, within the existing boundaries of the estate. I really mean no offence but ...
