Can't help with info unfortunately, other than there was a dairy tucked away in the corner of this road, which was based on the boundary of the old Croydon Canal Reservoir (willow trees at the edge of the reservoir?) However, here are some pictures (photos were taken 2-Feb-1956), and probably includ...

The Crystal Palace was featured in an episode of Suggs' Survivors on TV not so long ago. It features Ken Kiss talking about the subway and fountains + a ranger talking about the dinosaurs. I enjoyed it. :)

Falkor: What are the first 2 pictures of Sydenham & Forest Hill you've uploaded please? I mean they're more paintings than photographs but I wondered what and where. Especially the one that looks like a 'church by a pond'... Nobody knows.... but I reckon the 2nd one might be Sydenham Road oppos...

Good one, Terry! The Colosseum looks to have been exhibited in a corner of the Roman Court, however, I just spotted it side-by-side with the Pantheon in the view posted above; if only I had a scan from the original card then I would have spotted it since the quality isn't very good in my source: htt...

Rare Crystal Palace Photos (Part 5)

These look rare, but actually came from a sweet shop in Norwood, professionally re-produced from a collection belonging to a certain Pete... http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/sydenham/Untitled-1a.jpg http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/sydenham/Untitled-2a.jpg http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/sydenham/Unti...

The only Parade Watercolours I know is 1) Baxter 2) one hanging up in the Crystal Palace Museum 3) This one, which appears on Norwood Past front cover: http://www.rarekungfumovies.com/sydenham/83996.JPG Ken Kiss has all the excavation photos from the recent Molas digs if that's what you mean by huge...

It's very much like this one in terms of angle, but different fountain and closer to the palace:

The one above is the same angle as the one you posted before, but the one I saw was looking 90 degrees in 1 dimension towards the North Transept and Wing, but the Aquarium was not visible because of the other dimension looking mainly into the water with a brilliant mirror image of north end of the p...

Certainly a Roman-looking set of pillars and the roof thing looks quite temple-ish too.
You mean this architectural element:

Thanks for your reply Terry. That is a nice picture, but unfortunately isn't the one. The photo was more rough looking, like it had a card backing with a few minor creases. I seem to recall it was either the 1st or 2nd fountain nearest to the north wing, like the fountain in your view above, but was...

Terry, thanks for the info, but please can you confirm where the colosseum was exhibited inside the palace and what was in the Roman Court before the Pantheon? This is the closest I've got to the center of the Roman Court during the heydey of the Crystal Palace (1850s/1860s): http://www.rarekungfumo...

I don't want to sidetrack this tread (I have no answer to your question Falkor), but one thing that strikes me which Falkor said on our walk around the park was that the exhibitions in the Palace were probably better than the British Museum as they show artifacts. The palace gave them context. In t...

Looking for an old CP thumnail from an Ebay auction...

It was probably sold in 2005/2006 with a decent sized thumbnail showing one of the upper series of fountains with a reflection of the Crystal Palace in the water (probably the north transept; cannot remember exactly). I had it, but lost it. I know its a bit of a long shot, but any help would b...

The best way of explaining those photos would be to take John Coulter's narrative from Sydenham and Forest Hill Past, and split it up and group the various paragraphs with different parts of the High Street. To everyone's horror you would then discover that less than half of the known historic buldi...
