Re: Pie And Mash Shop Sydenham High Street.

This can't come soon enough - I'll be there with my knife and fork out. And frankly, I'd go independent if I were you. Best of luck and bring on the pies.

Re: #gardeningSE26

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread and found it inspirational too, thank you. And BusyLizzy, your RHS tutor's advice was a great relief to me; I'm often wracked with guilt about not doing things at the right time! Even now there is an unplanted bag of bulbs in my scullery silently accusing ...

Re: Spice kitchen on Newlands park

Barakah on Sydenham Road opposite the library. We're blessed with several good Indians in Sydenham, but the food at Barakah is head and shoulders above the rest; even the presentation is great. Last year they won best Indian takeaway in London (the Tried and Tasted Awards). Try the Poodina Goosht or...

Re: SUNNYDENE BUS STOP

I'm with G Man - speaking as a pedestrian living nearby and who uses that stop all the time, I like it myself. I'd have said far more problematic is the stretch opposite the library, where drivers all merrily park their cars right on the nice new pavement outside the takeaways, leaving hardly any sp...

Re: On the Hoof Bistro

We went there for the roast recently. It was a thoroughly lovely place to be inside - loved the decor and the noise levels were perfect. The hospitality was spectacular; the lady in charge could not have been more welcoming or lovely. However I'm sorry to say we were disappointed with the food. For ...

Re: Dangerous Dog - Brutal Attack on Queensthorpe Road

Hi Gabrielle Boyle,

Small comfort, I know, but just to offer enormous and heartfelt sympathy - I hope things improve for you and your daughter soon and that the dog's owner doesn't get away with this.

tiles 'n' taps?

Any recommendations for someone local and good, who could do a bit of tiling and fit a set of mixer taps on a bath? Not sure if I can afford to have it done, but will only find out if I can get a quote or two.

Thanks in advance...

Re: It beggars belief!

At the risk of sounding like a wet lettuce, I have to say, I'm finding the guy who's taken up residence outside Tesco a real problem. He's demanding and aggressive, and constantly scanning the street. A few weeks ago I was out for a run and went past there. Despite the fact that I was wearing headph...

Re: Very bad signal in Sydenham?!

Yes, same here. I'm with EE, who frequently tell me, 'Good news - you've kept well within your minutes this month!' To which I reply, 'I'm not surprised - I only ever have enough time to shout, "Can you call the landline?!" before I lose reception...' Seems crazy for zone 3, but there you ...

Re: Is Sydenham Safe?

I'm incredibly surprised by the negative stuff you've heard. If that were true then Sydenham would not have enjoyed such substantial rejuvenation over the last few years, with house prices pretty much doubling as a consequence. As I've posted before - I was a victim of violent crime several times in...

Re: Zanzibar Public Meeting: 14th August

The issue, as has been stated, is that it's inappropriate to have a nightclub in a quiet residential area like Sydenham. With the best will in the world, no amount of new policy-making is going to change that. All the time it remains there will inevitably be conflict - surely for the benefit of all ...

Re: An introduction

A huge and heartfelt welcome to you! I'm about to celebrate four lovely years here and as things stand I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. To add some personal highlights to those above: 1 - Crystal Palace Park is 20 mins away on foot, gorgeous and perfect for a run or a walk. 2 - Barrakah - Indi...

Re: House prices Feb 2014

Hallo Mani77, Yes, prices have gone through the roof and will continue to rise, but for what it's worth, I'd stick to your guns. It sounds very much to me as if you should be looking in Lower Sydenham. I think people get strung up on the "Lower" thing - although nobody I know that lives do...

Re: Could SE26 follow Hastings?

I grew up in Hastings and Bexhill and am currently back there at least once a week. I'm glad your experience of the area is a positive one - the arts scene down there is indeed thriving and several old friends are a part of that. The old town also continues to be pretty and diverse, but (IMO) Hastin...

Re: My visit to the new Tesco Express

At the risk of giving this hornet's nest a further kicking... I haven't gone in the new Tesco yet - I've felt I would curl up with shame if any of the lovely PFC people saw me and bellowed out "quisling!" However having read the above I now feel I can enter with a relatively clear conscien...

Re: Garden waste collection

Syd - Try the junction of Sydenham Rd and Kent House Rd. That seems to be our new municipal dumping ground. Alas, I fear if I did, Sydenham Beds would mark it up and by the next day they'd be flogging it out front as shabby chic mattress filler at an exorbitant price, along with all their other tre...

Re: Co-Op down

Had to take a moment to say that I think the staff in the Co-op are absolutely fantastic. In nearly four years of living in Sydenham, every time I shop there they are always polite, helpful and friendly, but not in a plastic, McDonalds way. They're also very focussed on getting the queues down quick...

Re: Garden waste collection

I'm extremely annoyed and disappointed by this. Aside from anything else it seems indicative of a prevailing governmental attitude that people can find "extra" money for things. "You don't need to be able to dispose of garden waste for free - they can pay us to collect it or take it t...
