Fantastic information, Reg, thanks very much.

It just occurred to me that I'd never heard a real eyewitness' account.

Please write more. In the meantime, I may check out that view, see if it's still uninterrupted!

Reg O'Neil, did you ever go to the Crystal Palace?

Would you consider sharing your memories of the place?

I know I'm always Crystal Palace centric, but I can't help it. Virtual Norwood Local History has about 2 posts a month - here it's more lively.

There are a couple of new car racing videos too, showing the park.

If you search for 'Crystal Palace' and 1971, they should come up.

In Part 1, you can clearly see the old Concert 'bowl' / venue, etc... Was this in the same place as the new one?

Oh dear, just noticed its full comments.

And no, I did not spot the Upper Engine House.

Apologies if I've offended anyone with the critique of the music - I have a professional interest you see...

Unseen (by me) footage of the Crystal Palace

The Crystal Palace standing, that is, and promptly burning to the ground, as it always does. I'd like to know if this footage is well known, or did I stumble across something rather unusual on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nMqq8TSkT0 My personal preference is to turn the sound down compl...

Well, I think it's a sensational photo. Even if no-one else is going to respond!

I'd love to know more about this archeology, assuming that's what it is.

Is there a way to become involved as an amateur?

Thanks, Konqi. Keep them coming...

I find that there is a frustrating lack of information on the Crystal Palace, actually. You have to search so hard for any information online. The story of Little Menolo is so intriguing and impressive. I sometimes think that the Crystal Palace was the Victorian equivalent of BBC1 - discuss... But n...

Hi Steve,

Well, try this - I think it's a better, more in-depth look at the recordings.

Well, this is a start - I've read loads more about Beulah Hill. http://www.theirvingsociety.org.uk/phono.htm There's a drawing of the place as well. I meant that there were many large villas on that road, Little Menlo being a particuarly interesting example. However, the road suffered badly in WW2 a...

That Delamotte is fascinating. The view down to the right of the picture highlights the rurality of the scene in 185?, doesn't it. Can I ask a silly question - it looks to me as though the Low-Level station is not yet built - is that the case? Also, if photos like this were taken, how come Mr Delamo...

Also, I remember reading somewhere that the crucifix motif found on those cottages was used again in the new buildings.

As can be seen, this is the case.

Finally, I've never seen a photo of those cottages - only a drawing, so thanks!

Nannyjacks, I moved out of 264, Kirkdale in October last year, having lived in the flat above the chemist (now called the Makepeace Pharmacy) for 4 years. I think the flat has probably changed a lot since 1945, but the original fireplaces were still there as was the tiled floor in the entrance hall....

Brilliant! I loved watching that. I don't remember having seen those tracks before, I'll go and look at the weekend. I've got two questions for you Konqi: 1. Do you have a photo of the front of the Palace from 1854? Or, more likely, of the parade before the High-Level station was in situ? There are ...

Thanks Steve and Terry. I guess that parade of shops disappeared inbetween the two wars, did it? In the photos I've seen taken in 1940 it's certainly not there, so maybe bombing in 1940? I wonder if there's a comprehensive railway photo library somewhere. I'm fascinated with the building in some way...

I spoke and they listened.. Not really, but Bromley council has submitted plans to redevelop Crytal Palace station. The plans include lifts to the platforms, gutting the victorian ticket hall and re-opening it. Along with losing that 80s bolt-on entrance. Please, Steve or Terry, do you have any phot...
