Re: Been to The Greyhound yet?
Have a table booked for me and some friends at the end of March. ( I moved to East Sussex 6 years ago). The Greyhound has had very good reviews, as has the owners other pubs.
I am confident it will prove a worthwhile visit to south east London, and my old stomping ground.

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
Remedial works to leave a gasworks fit for residential aren't cheap. But prices are getting more competitive and there are Government/Council monies available to bring land back into use. Any business is in effect fighting over the consumer £1 in their pocket. That £1 can only go to one shop. At the...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
The petition calls for the gasholders to be listed and the land around the them to be turned into residential units instead of retail space. I wouldn't have thought any of the land on the site of the old gasworks will be fit for normal residential use for thousands of years . Not true really. You c...

Re: 5-a-side footie
I am amazed this is still going, having moved to Sussex 5 years ago. I applaud the various Ringmasters who have kept, and indeed increased, the participant numbers. It would be unseemly of me to re-emerge for the Christmas mash-up (which is a damn fine way to spend any excess monies), but I hope to ...

Re: Is Sir Steve Bullock a crook
Being a crook, implies illegal activity. I would suggest Sir Steve has probably used his influence to gain monies for a charidee he is a trustee of. The charidee would be hopeful that he'd use his contacts in such a way. I would suggest the question should be: "Are all politicians as bent as a ...

Re: Hideous racket in Lawrie park area
I am not an expert in noise pollution, but have some knowledge. Without boring people to sleep (including myself), Council's very often utilise BS4142 as a system for defining a noise nuisance. (google it) http://www.noisenet.org/noise_enviro_industrial.htm It is quite a convoluted process which gen...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
This is outside my comfort zone. But when the fire started at the boarded-up Greyhound, it was under ownership of Milford Homes. (correct me if I'm wrong) The plot was sold to Purelake, very soon afterwards, and the current development approved. (albeit after unauthorised demolition) It would seem t...
Re: Doorz
The chap who ran 'Doorz', had an arrangement with the owner of the property, which seems to have come to an end.
To say 'Doorz' had Mixed-Reviews, would be a compliment. Of the handful of people I met who had dealings with them, none of them were satisfied with the work or (lack of) communication.

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Lee, I'm fine cheers, thanks for asking. Rural areas have their own problems, such as how do you rescue a cow that has fallen into the local river ? I'm sure the Purelake and Lewisham have done their homework regarding traffic, and I don't wish to raise concerns which may be unfounded. But,..you can...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I left Sydenham about 3 years ago, but felt compelled to comment after Parker1970's latest photograph. I am employed in the Development Sector, and have a good background knowledge of all that has happened to The Greyhound since it closed. I was aghast when the Greyhound was knocked down. But after ...

timely assistance required in Venner Road area
Hi all, A bit of a long-shot, but I would appreciate any replies. This request is a bit 'out there'. I moved to East Sussex a few years ago, but retain friends in the Sydenham area. Unfortunately, one of these friends died on Sunday 19th. He was very much a recluse, with few friends. I have the addr...

Hamiltons near the Bird in Hand (Forest Hill territory) are the mutts nuts.
(and whilst mentioning mutts, he used to have a couple of big dogs behind the counter. They are friendly to customers)

Ali B makes a brief return to STF
So, I googled STF on the 4th December and found,.... Admin mentioned having a drink with me at the Bricklayers Arms (was that a 'date' ? :D ) When I left Sydenham some 2 and a half years ago, major improvements had just been completed to the Brickies, and it was a great pub. Then I saw Bensonby (I t...

Re: 20mph zone proposed for 'Thorpes' area of Sydenham
i was under the impression that speed reduction/traffic calming measures were based on incidents and fatalities. This is the response i had from Lewisham when i raised issues regarding speed on Dartmouth Road (my former stomping ground). Therefore, i am slightly uneasy that measures are being instal...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
[quote="Sacha1966"]I think the Sydenham Gateway site looked far nicer when it was just The Greyhound, without the flats. When I first saw the plans for the proposed flats I said 'it looks awful! The pub's all cramped in!' But was assured that was the best we could hope for! Now we're lumbe...

Re: Miriam Lodge Planning Application
Obviously the people housed in Miriam Lodge have to go somewhere.
My only real objection was the pish-poor management of the facility. No-one wants to take responsibility for knifings, assaults, robberies, suicide attempts,, burglaries, drug use and general anti-social behaviour.
