Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Whilst I wouldn't use it I broadly support the Nando's opening . I can't see anything unhelpful in Chris Best's update - let's face it , if it did turn into a hub of Dodgy-Roo and bikes all over the pavement it would concern some local residents , understandably and I see no reason why Chris would n...

Re: Beggars on the high street

Eagle Agree , it's hard to see how they would fare under any future labour market needs points system . As well as a mild nuisance factor I always get an uneasy sense of exploitation . I remember once seeing a German-registered white Mercedes dropping of 3 or 4 such women to beg outside Waitrose in ...

Thanks very much for the update - glad to know Alan's still in the business . I'm sorted now but I'm sure he'll continue to do a great job - I bet he'll miss that really nice old shed with the well-ordered clipboards hanging from nails !

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?

Would it really be so expensive to install bollards on the pavement areas that regularly get parked on ? Surely longer term it will save expensive repairs and avoid accidents and intimidation of people who challenge those that do it ? I would suggest the following areas : The parade opposite the lib...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?

Hissing Syd Fully agree - there seems to be some wierd objections to bollards but if people can't be civil and ( it seems ) nobody interesting in enforcing it - we need physical barriers to parking on the pavement . My fear is that it's rapidly coming to be seen as normal - i.e. As you go up the evo...

Re: Ellie Reeves MP breaks promise

Perryman Its little wonder the idea of a "political class" has taken hold in the UK and Europe . I make no distinction between whether on the left or right - this self-serving behaviour is taking the pee quite openly . It would behove more of us to recognise that left wing politicians are ...

Ok, not actually Sydenham , but near, opposite Anerley Town Hall. Mrs Nigel and I have used them several times for art supplies, printing flyers and non-standard size documents on unusual papers etc .. Basically highly recommended - they are helpful , know what they are doing and very reasonable. La...

Re: The Sydenham Society

I echo the above . Sydsoc doesn't present itself as infallible and as Pat says they are open to influence and new members and views . I cannot see how so much free-floating negativity comes to be hurled at a group which clearly fights for sydenham in a way that nobody else does . That the criticism ...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting

Rod I think drug dealing , hired killers and gambling are also big draws - not sure what kind of high street you are hoping for but it's probably not the one most of us want . Being serious for precisely 10 seconds , I support more regulated and safe environments for those working in the secx trade ...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting

Maestro, Rod and Lee - have you been watching too much Frank Skinner or something ? Firstly the sexual exploitation and possible stereotyping of oriented women is absolutely not a suitable topic for Town Hall , particularly as a subject of light hearted banter. Secondly , prostitution tends to centr...

Mosy, thank you for that - I do try . In retrospect I should have included some kind of irony warning for the hard-of-thinking but I think this post has been a bit of a triumph for logic anyway . It seems you can care deeply about the thousands of people who are homeless or in sub-standard accomodat...

Re: Squatters?

Just think, after Brexit we may not have the luxury of east European squatters and remoaners will no doubt complain that English squatters simply lack the application and appetite for hard work to break in and occupy vacant buildings and houses . Not to sound too prosaic , but is anyone actually try...

Alwyn That's my guess - it sounded like a sound set-up , think I heard a few " wun-too, wun-too"s. I heard back from LBB who said they are onto it . It didn't happen last Sunday so maybe they've stopped it - they'll be hearing from me if they come back and I will keep everyone posted . Sha...

Re: Crystal Palace park noise

Interestingly whenever there is an official event there is never anything on the net - I've done it mainly out of curiosity ( event +crystal palace park + date etc ) The only I've found on retrospective is a Jamaica event about 3 years ago . Utterly bizarre why Bromley don't post forthcoming events ...

Re: Crystal Palace park noise

I've written to Bromley using this address : ehts.customer@bromley.gov.uk , outlining the issues and asking what they knew, why their contractors have allowed it to continue and when they are going to stop it . I didn't have name to write to , only the email address from their noise nuisance page ht...
