Please don't buy a kitten! Battersea Dogs and Cats Home often have abandoned kittens for rehoming. Or better still, why not take a slightly older cat which has been fully house trained and which they can advise you of its suitability for small children? Have a look at their website - they tend not t...

Hi, The Sydenham Community Garden (http://www.sydenhamgarden.org.uk/)has a couple of open day type events every year where they sell nice, cheap plants. I think every Tuesday they sell plants from the Sydenham Green doctors' surgery on Holmshaw Close as well, although it's always during the day so I...

Until recently, I had a very dodgy Oyster season ticket which only worked on the 3rd or 4th swipe, if at all. I got it changed for a new one (they don't like doing it - you have to insist) last week and now it works on all barriers, including Sydenham, like a dream. Oyster cards do deteriorate. If y...

Yes, location is key, and the area that really needs the development is in the high street, currently dominated by tatty pound shops and nailbars, not further up Kirkdale. It's the bit between the station and the Dolphin that really needs to be concentrated on. Further down Sydenham Road towards Sai...

re. the previous comment on fairtrade foodstuffs - I would imagine that Wellbeing has this market pretty much covered. I would definitely be interested in a good quality clothes / gifts shop - something that Sydenham is sorely missing. You should be looking along the lines of People Tree (http://www...

If you have a travelcard that covers zone 3 loaded onto your oyster card, one day, one month, a year or otherwise, then you will be able to use it at Sydenham, just as you can now. It's only pre-pay which will not yet be valid, which is the same as at all other stations on the overground network.

The store is already open until midnight and opens again at 7am - I can't see it would make a great deal of difference to local residents for it to be open those extra few hours. But maybe I'm being ignorant -I think if the locals residents have a valid reason to object, then the Syd Soc should be w...

Roudasapound, This surprises me as this is completely opposite to my experience of Lower Sydenham. I use it very frequently in the mornings (Charing Cross services) and always get a seat. There are usually plenty of seats left for people at Catford Bridge too. I find it positively relaxing. Granted,...

Let me get this straight. So, essentially, if we assume that candidates A and B are going to be the top two candidates and you want A to win, it makes tactical sense to give A your second choice vote rather than your first choice vote. is that right? btw, I wouldn't trust Paddick as far as I could t...

I assume the current bad layout is only because they haven't finished the 'upgrade' and are having to move things about so they can work on different areas. I think people would only have coffee there while waiting for someone else to do the shopping - can't think of another reason. I also prefer Sa...

Hi Jockey, I use Lower Sydenham station in the mornings alot to get directly into Charing Cross, even though I live about the same distance from Sydenham station, because it is so convenient - right into the centre of town without having to negotiate London Bridge in the morning. The trains are alwa...

Hello Newbie, I live near the others on Fairlawn park but off the other side of Sydenham Road. I know what you mean about the walk to Lower Syd station but I'm not sure I know the footpath route you're referring too? Anyway, I am pretty much equidistant between Sydenham and Lower Sydenham stations -...

Hi, Sorry to go over this again, but I'm abit of a dimwit when it comes to anything like this and need clarification. I'm thinking of getting a freeview box for our small portable tv in the bedroom which is not connected to an external aerial / cable / sky etc. Will it work with the portable aerial?...
