Re: Microbrewery - tomorrow, one night only!
They're still trying to come to some sort of arrangement at the Alex pub, either sub-letting off the new developers or taking the whole place back off them now that the developers have had their initial plans to convert to a hotel/hostel knocked back by the council. The Nurseries/LK tie-up will be a...

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
Not sure why the nearby presence of the Moon and Stars should preclude anybody else setting up a decent pub, Eagle. Penge can easily support two very different good ale pubs. The 'spoons does great, cheap beer but is a homogonised quaff barn like all 'spoons. The Alex, if run by LK or another decent...

Re: The Alexandra to become a hostel?
Evening all. I'm led to believe the developer is keen to sublet the ground floor to somebody else who'll run a bar or bistro for them. The size is small but I believe if Late Knights do become the tenants (and talks are ongoing apparently) they'd make a massive success of it. The place in Gipsy Hill...

Apologies if already posted but this was interesting. A list of LB of Lewisham's old cinemas and what they are now:

It's ok, I'm only joshing. It's basically a very small, former Italian restaurant, and the layout inside matches that of such an establishment.

Oh and Beer Rebellion are taking over the lease of the G*psy Hill bookies so are moving next door some time soon.

Re: Microbrewery - tomorrow, one night only!
Eagle's talking out of his bahookie. The Beer Rebellion is a fantastic place and the pokiness is part of the appeal. They usually have eight draught ales on, served the customer side of the bar and the bar staff's knowledge and friendliness is second to none. I've had LK beers in the M&S many ti...

Re: Microbrewery - tomorrow, one night only!
Good to meet you Tim. I had a couple of pints just before closing. They'd sold out of 8 crates of bottled beer by then which is pretty good going. Still hoping they open a permanent place in Penge - keep it small, low overheads and they'll do well.
Re: Burgled
Sorry to hear about this, Tubby. When I lived in a rented flat in Lewisham I was burgled a couple of times, the second one was ten days after the first. I was actually out replacing the items lost the first time when they struck! They were actually reported the first time as well as they hailed a bl...

It only takes four or five selfish individuals to walk their dog a couple of times a day to create a right mess of our streets.
The foxes are weird, they often seek out things like cat water bowls, etc.

It's always a good idea to check out the Met Police crime stats: http://www.police.uk/crime/?q=Brasted+Close%2C+London+SE26+4LT%2C+UK#crimetypes/2013-08 - You'll need to zoom in to see the Close itself. Remember these are only part of the story and you can't beat speaking to people who actually live...

Re: Deadline approaching in battle to save The Windmill
You're right that the ambiance of a venue is important. Great pubs frequently also have knowledgable and friendly bar staff too. I love the beer in Beer Rebellion, Catford Bridge Tavern and the G&G but they always make me feel valued too. I don't agree with the ales at home option though. Even t...

Re: Deadline approaching in battle to save The Windmill
Most of the real success stories of recent years have been the pubs selling great ale. Many do indeed also sell good food but it's the quality range of beer that makes people travel that bit further to spend their money there. Of course some bars are doing well selling mass produced lager but it's n...

Kent House Tavern up for sale
I know this is technically Penge but it's actually a few yards from the boundary with Syders so I include it here.
Asking price is £500k though with its location and size (pub with three rooms and 5 to 6 bedrooms above), I'd have thought it's likely to go for more than that.

Re: Cash-point blunder
I think cashpoints do suck the money back into the machine if you forget to withdraw it but only after a period of time (not sure but I'm guessing 30 or 40 seconds to allow for fumbling with wallet, etc). Obviously that needs nobody else to see it there first.
Re: Pubs
Hi Adie! - Bit surprised to see you pop up on here (you used to pop up on SoundsXP forum too)
I was in the CBT last night and the staff are all moving onto other Antic pubs. I'm sure the new pub will be as good as the old one but it's a real shame it'll be shut for a while.

Re: Pubs
Apparently the Catford Bridge Tavern's last day as an Antic pub is Sunday. Not sure how long it'll be shut after that while Camden Bars take over. Hope they keep the staff as they are young, enthusiastic and superb.
Re: Pubs
Going back to the Catford Bridge Tavern - Camden Bars, who've taken it over, have tweeted to say they'll be opening a micro-brewery on the premises.
Re: Pubs
What ales does the Golden Lion do? Never been in but might be tempted if the beer is good.
