Sydenham Arts Festival seeking trustees for its new charity

Sydenham Arts Festival Ltd is in the process of recruiting for Trustees to its new registered charity, Sydenham Arts. Having staged sixth annual festivals since 2009, the organisation is committed to promoting and commissioning diverse arts events and activities in the local area.

Our Board of Trustees will be experienced, qualified and enthusiastic individuals willing to bring their expertise to an organisation looking to develop both professionally and creatively, as well providing strategic direction especially is regard to securing long-term funding and ongoing sustainability.

The organisation is seeking 6-8 trustees, including elected officers Chair, Secretary & Treasurer, to form part of a 'steering committee'.

We are looking for interested candidates, willing to apply for these roles, and others who would be able to bring expertise in at least one of the following areas:

• Fundraising
• Project Planning
• Accountancy
• Charity Law
• Governance
• Strategic Development
• PR/Social Media

A strong interest in the arts would be an advantage.

Sydenham Arts Trustees will need to be able to:

• Use professional expertise to steer the organisation
• Promote the organisation within Sydenham (SE26), Forest Hill (SE23) and immediate environs
• Offer 1.5 days a month (on average)
• Attend monthly meetings to help paid staff plan quarterly 'mini-festivals'
• Join sub-committees exploring specific areas of development


Treasurer:

We are specifically looking for a new Treasurer, who would be responsible for financial operations. S/he would also have responsibility for ensuring the organisation meets its legal obligations as an organisation limited by guarantee, as well as steer the organisation regarding new fundraising opportunities. In addition to the duties above:

• Ensure that profit and loss accounts are kept up to date
• Prepare annual accounts and submit them to Companies House
• File annual reports and AGM notes with Companies House
• Manage the organisation’s bank accounts, paying in and enacting transactions
