Commercial unit next to Penge East station

Post by FromCtoShiningC »

Hi everyone...anyone passing by Penge East station (on the Newlands Park side) may have noticed that the small commercial unit that has been long closed (15 years+?) has been fenced off. It's the one virtually connected to/under the listed railway bridge. There was a 'demolition' sign, but I would hope it won't be demolished per se, but that it will be re-developed...... Does anyone know anything on this topic? if so, do share :-)

The railway bridge is *listed*?? What on earth for?

Sorry, afraid I can't answer your actual question, except that the last time I looked it did look as though the unit was being cleared out rather than demolished.

As I understand it, the footbridge isn't listed in itself, but the station as a whole is.

See https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/ ... ry/1186820 for a description (you'll need to scroll down)...

...and http://www.bromley.gov.uk/homepage/210/ ... in_bromley for a map showing the extent of the listing (you'll need to zoom in).

Wow. I'll have to pay more attention next time I'm waiting for a train!

As I understand it, the listing is why we won't be getting desperately-needed lifts at the station, and people who are unable to cope with the (newly refurbished) stairs will have to carry on using the half-mile detour at ground level to get from one side of the station to the other :(

A cafe has appeared, called something like "Little Things" - noticed it yesterday but can't remember the name properly.

Little Things is brilliant. Really good coffee (it's roasted by Monmouth) and a fine array of cake options

I go there every day and it is such a warm welcome atmosphere. The owner is hoping to have the patio garden open soon - once the Penge East construction team have completed work by her unit. The food offering will probably increase as well then. Such a lovely new asset to the area.
