Sir George Grove Blue Plaque Celebration Concert (5 July)

Post by SydArts »

Part of the 2016 Sydenham Arts Summer Festival 1-10 July 2016

An historic day celebrating the writer and editor of Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians.

English Heritage and the Sydenham Society are delighted to be unveiling another Blue Plaque for Sydenham on Westwood Hill. Join us for a free concert by the Hillmore Ensemble to celebrate the event. The programme will feature works by Schubert, Sir George Grove’s favourite composer.

Theme and variations movement from Schubert’s Octet, arranged for clarinet and piano on Two songs from Dominick Argento’s cycle ‘To be sung upon the water’ one of which will be ‘in memoriam of Schubert’ the songs are 20th century settings of Wordsworth poems, so there’s a link back to the 19th century as well as to Schubert in Schubert’s ‘the Shepherd on the Rock’ for soprano, clarinet and piano.

Date: 5 July 2016
Time: 5pm
Venue: St Bartholomew’s Church, 4 Westwood Hill, SE26 6QR

Free Event - Just turn up on the day! http://sydenhamarts.co.uk/event/sir-geo ... n-concert/
