Changing the speed limit

Post by butters »

Off the back of yesterdays tragic events, I was wondering about the speed limit on some of the local roads. Living on Newlands Park, seeing cars speeding at sometimes clearly more than 50/60mp when its clear had be wondering on what the actual speed limit was.

I noticed yesterday that there are signs now saying 20mph painted on the road. I don't know how long they have been there, but have read this

http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/t ... limit.aspx

Looks like 20mph will become the speed limit throughout the borough from September 2016.....looks like it started rolling out in 2014 though so I assume that no one sticks to it!

Also I guess because halfway down Newlands Park the borough changes from Lewisham to Bromley...!

Thoughts? Its clearly not being enforced if it is 20mph.........

I just thought that Lewisham had a job lot of white paint they wanted to get rid off. Also the speed down the High Street cannot be more than 20mph anyway.

A bit like those mini-roundabouts that spring up. I can just imagine the conversation:

Worker 1: "Well, that was a good job done. What are we going to do with all this left-over concrete and white paint?"

I'll leave it to you to continue the conversation.

As a pedestrian in London, I'd appreciate a 10mph limit and speed cameras on every junction.

I agree 100%.

We want thousands of speed cameras with heavy fines for abusers.

Glasgow uses the slogan twenty's plenty, which in an urban area it clearly is

I have to agree with my learned friend.

On this matter he speaks with wise words.

I hope it helps. There have been 3 (minor) crashes outside my house on Sunnydene Street since I moved in 6 weeks ago.
