Does anyone know how we can get new food waste bags? The relevant page on the Lewisham website shows the option to order a replacement food waste bin (which we don't need) but not new food waste sacks (which we do need).

They were a sample. The leaflet that came with the bin said you could buy more from supermarkets. The council won't be providing more

I believe both Sainsbury's and Waitrose sell the liners (12-litre ones) - the Waitrose ones are VERY flimsy compared with the ones Bromley (still?) sells in the libraries (although those are a lot smaller). Put sharp eggshells, grape "skeletons" or the like in them and they're likely to make holes.

You can buy the caddy sized bags on Ebay but it still works out 8 pence a bag.

Just had new stickers slapped on all the bins in our street. Leaving aside that it's thoughtlessly covered up our house numbers, which will now need repainting, I feel it's ridiculous to declare outright "NO FOOD WASTE ALLOWED" on the general rubbish bins. Will a Food Waste Inspector now be paid to enforce this and trawl through people's rubbish sacks, with a squad of enforcers sent to deal with any guilty parties? "Do you recognise this banana skin?"

The food waste collections have been hated here since they were foisted on us, ditto the ludicrously baby-ish ad campaign that heralded their arrival - "Darling, it's twins!" Tee hee hee! - Christ. Was that good use of public money?

To be honest we compost nearly everything anyway, but prohibiting ANY food waste going in general rubbish just seems draconian and silly.
