Replies from councillors

Is there a "polite" time period to wait if one has not received a reply after a week or so?

Within a week or so a good and conscientious councillor will have at least responded with an acknowledgement of your correspondence.

Some flexibility is needed - they do go on leave and do have other roles and demands in their lives - as we all do in the round.

At two to three weeks if neither a full response or acknowledgement has been received - a polite expedite note could be seen to be appropriate. And I stress polite.

For the less conscientious - they may not be inclined to respond at all - and for many different reasons.

So a well phrased reminder that you have an expectation of a response would seem reasonable - and cc this to the other ward councillors and to the Mayor of Lewisham and to your local MP.
