Anti mask culture

Post by syd »

Hi, I’ve been on lockdown since March as I’m in a high risk category and I had to go out today, it seems like wearing a mask is a controversial act. WTF is happening, have the idiots won?

Yes

I thought so. I saw a video of a maskless man entering the tube and when he was challenged he knocked the person out. Yesterday I had a car full of idiots expressing their opinion about my choice to wear a mask. I think I may spend winter elsewhere it’s obviously going to be brutal for vulnerable people (I reckon the hospital will slap a DNR notice on me if I’m even admitted) and I have to seriously Consider if it’s time to leave. I never thought I’d leave but It’s dangerous here 66% of people who died of covid were disabled. That 40k and it’s just a coincidence that there is a eugenicist is running the country 🤔

I'm sorry about that.

In all seriousness I think that we're talking about a vocal and visible minority of people who are flouting the rules. But I'm afraid I agree with you that Winter is going to be quite rough, especially our vulnerable populations, and I don't envy your predicament.

I’m not surprised this isn’t common knowledge, it’s from the ONS and I could find any info on the bbc site. Its a national scandal.

Here is the source info from the ONS , see table 1

Some solid analysis from BMJ>

The increase spread of red boxes in the "No face coverings, contact for prolonged time" tells you a lot.

Does anyone know what's said by the science if "you" are covid free then imbibe some covid droplets, how quickly you transmit these to another? Do you instantly (and thereafter) breathe the virus out possibly onto others or does it need to take hold in you first (incubation for symptoms time)?

Everyone was thinking that the pandemic would have gone berserk after various beach crowds and raves etc reported yet it doesn't seem to have. Any idea why it didn't once everyone went back to their home locations? Ta.

NOT an expert and only trying to interpret published data without any trained skills in medicine or clinical matters.

Cannot find any published data about how quickly a case patient may begin to infect others after that case patient has contact with or contracts the COVID-19 virus.

At the other end of the infectious period, there is a CDC based statement that says anyone who makes contact with a case patient six or more days after the onset of illness may not develop infection. See the second quote for the maximum infectious period of a case patient who has mild to moderate symptoms.
A large contact tracing study demonstrated that high-risk household and hospital contacts did not develop infection if their exposure to a case patient started 6 days or more after the case patient’s illness onset (Cheng et al., 2020).
Assessment
Available data indicate that persons with mild to moderate COVID-19 remain infectious no longer than 10 days after symptom onset. Persons with more severe to critical illness or severe immunocompromise likely remain infectious no longer than 20 days after symptom onset. Recovered persons can continue to shed detectable SARS-CoV-2 RNA in upper respiratory specimens for up to 3 months after illness onset, albeit at concentrations considerably lower than during illness, in ranges where replication-competent virus has not been reliably recovered and infectiousness is unlikely.

It may be the case that this where our 10-14 day isolation period is derived from.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) item with this title can be found at the link below.
HEALTHCARE WORKERS
Duration of Isolation and Precautions for Adults with COVID-19
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... ation.html

More investigation is required for how quickly the spread of the virus can begin.

Many thanks JGD. I suppose we need a time machine to go back for each person who has symptoms to before they had and track and trace contacts in the days prior. It does seem though that the most virulent exposure recorded is in the first few days of a person showing symptoms - and recognising them as winter draws in.

Thanks for the BMJ table JGD. This will clarify the risk of working in an office for 8 hours a day. Hopefully this is the end of 9-5 and those empty office can be converted into affordable housing.

"people are counted as disabled if they said their daily activities were “limited a little” or “limited a lot” by a health problem or disability in this data source."

So, it is a distinctly broad definition of "disabled". I mean, I probably come under that heading, but wouldn't remotely think of myself as being disabled. Thanks for the links.

Well this is worrying considering how few people wear masks in Sydenham

People who refuse to follow rules on wearing facemasks are more likely to have malevolent sociopathic traits, a study suggests.

Individuals who showed signs of the so-called dark-triad of personality traits — narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy — were also more likely to trivialise the risks posed by Covid-19 and to avoid regular hand-washing and social distancing.
