Perry Vale/FH underpass improvements

Post by nasaroc »

FH station passengers and others who use the FH underpass will be pleased to hear that improvements wil shortly take place to pavements on Perry Vale close to the station and from the exit on the down platform and that a facelift for the underpass will be underway soon after these works have been completed.

A section of Perry Vale will be closed to road traffic during part of the work.

Forest Hill Subway/Perry Vale road works

Post by Bryan »

I provide below an extract from advice given by Lewisham officials to Heidi Alexander, Lewisham's Deputy Mayor, about the Forest Hill Subway and about slippage in the programme of road works in Perry Vale.

That Network Rail are finally taking a positive interest in the Forest Hill subway (they own it) is very much to the credit of the Deputy Mayor who has been concerned over a long period to bring about improvements to the thoroughfare.

"Dear Councillor Alexander

Forest Hill Subway

Thank you for your email dated 20th June 2008.

Network Rail have just informed us that resurfacing and drainage works in the Forest Hill Subway will start this Sunday and will possibly run over two weekends.

In addition, and within the next sixteen weeks, the subway will be closed for a short time, probably for no more than a fortnight, to facilitate repairs to the overhead beams that support the railway tracks. No dates have been published but as soon as these are known I shall advise you further.

A number of problems have been encountered in Perry Vale with the remodelling of the road adjacent to the subway with late changes made to the new private development opposite. Whilst these are not insurmountable, and will be resolved this financial year, completion of the works will not be possible within the original programme. The immediate effect will be the completion of the diversion of various services after which the road will reopen - the planned Highway works will be suspended. Again, I will inform you as soon as the completion programme for the street works can be ascertained ....l"

Earlier this week, it was still possible go past the road-closed sign and park in the car park at the Forest Hill Trading Estate. If anyone has any news on whether this will remain open or the date of closure of the underpass it would be most welcomed. :)

My thanks for the info already posted.

Mosy: the section of Perry Vale that is closed is from just after the junction of Hindsley's Place (next to All Inn One pub) to Finches sports shop. Therefore the entry to the car park is unaffected (and of course needs to be kept open for access to the industrial units/Royal Mail delivery office anyway).

Many thanks, Blushingsnail, for the info, especially noting that the car park should remain open during the works :)

Have they finished it yet? Will it ever get finished?

With the roadworks and temporary traffic lights in Kirkdale going on at the same time there is no easy route to head west on the A205 in a large truck or coach.

Not that either options were particularly great before but both routes to cross the railway line from Sydenham Road to the A205 are now screwed completely.
