I try and avoid posting nasty crime stories just because one of the criminals happens to have a Sydenham address. But I'm making an exception. Both because it was such a vile pre-meditated extortion crime and hopefully it shows that blackmail is still not a good career move for criminals in London. Blackmail always leaves an active link to the gang which when the police are involved means detection, rescue & apprehension is the most probable outcome as in this case:

It sounds a like a fairly shocking and harrowing experience for the victims. Here's hoping Thijseen is not let out early due to over-crowding. What's odd about this crime is that the gang hails from all points N,S,E & W and there were so many of them yet such a comparatively small ransom demand?
