Mayow Park Winter Newsletter

Post by mummycat »

Here's the latest edition of the FOMP newsletter:
http://www.sydenhamsociety.com/docs/FOM ... r%2002.pdf As you can see, there's lots going on!

Some of you may remember taking part in a walkabout consultation in November 2008 organised by Groundwork. The Mayow Park Masterplan Final Draft has been unveiled and we need to return feedback in the form of a questionnaire by the new deadline of 29th January.

Since Groundwork and LB of Lewisham started the consultation, the website url has changed, so you'll need to access it through http://london.groundwork.org.uk/ and click on Mayow Park Consultation on the right. Groundwork assure us that they're trying their best to fix it.

If you can't access it through the internet, then there's a hard copy of the Masterplan and copies of questionnaires available at Sydenham Library.

Maintenance is an ongoing duty for the council.
It is their duty to maintain a drinking fountain, a toilet, the paths, the shrubs trees, fencing, grounds, pavilion, tennis courts and playground.

That means repairing and replacing things as they wear out.
This is not a project as the main definition of a project is that is has a fixed time scale. This maintenance work is on-going, forever.
It is quite expensive and boring. But it is our heritage and responsibility.

If the master plan acknowledged this one issue, then the main project left to find funding for, is one to provide a cafe.

The cafe needs to be near where the greatest density of people are. It needs to be near the playground. That is where the ice-cream van stops, after all.

A small block could be built on the old cricket net area with seating, toilets, and cover. Or perhaps part convert the pavilion into a cafe and the playground can be moved to the meadow field.

In fact fill the field with sand and build a giant adventure playground (like the one at Godstone farm) or one having a water theme like at Wells park. What a fantastic and worthwhile (real) project to find funding for.

Yesterday when entering the park by the pavilion I saw that they were digging up all the shrubs and the lawn area to the left of of the entrance. Anyone know what that is and if they had put up any signage that this work was going to be happening?

I think I have read somewhere that Envirowork, who lease the nursery behind the pavilion, are going to use this land for some community use. I think it may be a demonstration garden of some type.

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that there's only a week to return your completed questionnaires to Martin Hyde at Lewisham's Green Scene with your views on the Groundwork Masterplan for Mayow Park. Maybe you took part in the walkabout in November 2008 and wanted a say, so here's your chance!

You can download it here: www.groundwork-london.org.uk/mayowpark
and email it back to: Martin.hyde@lewisham.gov.uk

Or you can view a hard copy at Sydenham Library where they also have copies of the questionnaire.

More updates on what's going happening in Mayow Park on the blog: http://mayowpark.wordpress.com/

Thanks for your continued interest.....
Emma
