With bonus, 10% staff discount, and pension.

Wonder how many "independent" shops offer any of these things?

Why be so negative. Jobs should be welcomed.

Not a great fan of these sort of stores but know a lot of people are.

Any jobs are a good thing.

I agree on the jobs front however it's probably only a matter of time until people won't be available to fill these jobs because of the minimum wage.

If the truth is negative let it be heard.

I was always told if you are an employer and you pay peanuts you may well only attract monkeys.

A new Dixon/PC World in Sydenham? Sounds a bit weird to me, especially given that there's one just up the road in Catford. Where's it going to be?

It's part of the new retail park at Bell Green, beside Sainsburys.

I wonder if the retail park in Catford is on its way out. Comet have closed and none of the other shops have been very busy any time I've been there. There is not enough mix in the retail - PC World and Currys overlap on a lot of products. Prime site for a block of flats, I'd have thought.

With housing so expensive and minimum wage an exploitative outrage there will be people who would rather languish on the dole after they have be socially engineered out of London to an economically lobotomised fossil town.

Mike why do you have to be so negative. It concerns me. be positive.

I would imagine 50% plus of these staff will be under 20 and consequently living at home. After paying for their keep will have a nice sum left over.

I for one support the Government's plan not to pay anyone benefits of more than 26k a year. To earn that you would need to earn 41k.
It is patently stupid we should pay out such large figures and it cannot go on. Thank fully this Government gas had the guts.

I don't much care for the minimum wage.

As was mentioned earlier if you pay peanuts you get monkey arsed chimps who often struggle with the most simplistic of basic concepts in a futile attempt to up their commission by patronising pensioners and blinding them into parting with their cash.

But glad to see PC world capitalising and cashing in on the demise of their high-street rivals.

What a charming world view mikecg has.

I guess he never worked in a shop to pay his way / gain work experience through his A-level or a degree, like many of us did. Perhaps it was beneath him?

Either way mate I'm sitting at home with my feet up posting crap on the internet all day without having to lift a finger and still getting paid for it.

Not bad is it :D

I've worked in a factory, dug trenches on building sites, worked in a shop and was kept on low wages because I had no other choice cos I had to commit almost all of my time to working like a dog. I didn't have the luxury of a summer job whilst being propped up by mummy and daddies money.

I did it all on my own orphan stylee.

I've told you before Eagle I'm not a socialist and I'm certainly not a supporter of conservatives dressed in red like Blair or that one eyed Scottish idiot Gordon Clown.

Weird, then, that you come across as such a snob about retail work...

Come on, spill - did PC World ever turn you down for a job? If so, does it still hurt?

You have misread my disdain.

Corporate vultures like PC world haven't earned my respect and never will.

It's great news that their modus operandi is providing the minimum wage though and exploiting the benefits of the cheap labor that is on offer to them.

The sooner the internet kills off such corporate robbers the better IMO.

I'd rather shop online at half the price of what these types of places offer, I'd rather support an ebay shop than those sharks.

EDIT:(Customer Service Tip) I've found myself standing by the printer cartridges when I've left my reading glasses at home for an absolute age. Not that I'd go out of my way to go there but once in the evening a few years back I'd ran out of ink so decided to go there as a deadcert way of getting what I needed in a hurry which was really annoying. I've found that standing by a £2000 TV which as if by magic spawns rather more enthusiasm from their sales staff, I then shepherd said sales person to printer cartridges area speeding up the whole process
