ALIB wrote:Excellent. Can I also add that I spoke with Ashley White of London Wildlife yesterday, and she is interested in coming along, and perhaps answering questions on the natural history of the woods.

I am in the process of seeing if this is OK with Steve Grindlay, but it gives an excellent opportunity of covering a whole raft of subjects.
I can recommend the bat walks...

I am absent minded sometimes. Can you PM me closer to the time?

HURRAY! I WILL be there! I am off work that day :D
Maybe plus one but, if not, I'll be (not) on my own.

Thank you so much Ali, for sending me the notes from the last walk.
(and my sincere apologies for not getting back to you until now)
Were there any photo's?

I was so sad to read that you will be leaving S.E.London for Kent :( (and jealous - I am NOT a "townie" at heart!) BUT very happy for you and your wife also

I'm looking forward to meeting you, Steve and many others, on Saturday the 9th of June at 11.00am and possibly talking and asking more/about other local places/issues over a pint of water/beer/wine/orange juice in the Dulwich Woodhouse afterwards :)

See you all soon

I hope the weather is hot, so a trip to the DWH to have a chat/drink afterwards is very definitely on the cards.
I had included photos from the last walk in the notes i sent out. They are just not identified as originating from the last walk. I was attmepting to get someone from Wildlife for London along too, to answer questions on the flora and fauna of the woods, but not sure if this will happen.

that's around 22 people. A few may drop-out at the last moment, but that's a good working number and still leaves room for more.

You don't have to 'book' a place,..you can still just turn up if it transpires people are unexpectedly free that morning.

TY ALIB ;) I'm really looking forward to, the walk, the information/history we will hear and learn about and, also, the chance to meet some fellow locals/forum members :D
Let's hope the weather is kind :)

Just a wee reminder of the walk tomorrow - looks like the weather is going to be much better than today and previous rainy days :D

See you all in the morning - 11am by the Crescent Wood Road entrance :)

Thanks Steve. I think you may be encouraged to do another walk sometime in the Summer/Autumn. And thanks to Chris from Wildlife for London.

If anyone wants the notes and photo's of the walk (historical photos, recent photos, pictures and maps) then drop me a pm with your email address and I'll whizz them over to you as soon as i can

A couple of trees have come down in recent years. March 2009 was the first that i saw in Cox's Walk near to the bridge. Probably the biggest tree in the woods, the diameter was around a metre (see photograph)

Another big tree came down across Sydenham Hill in June 2011
