JoePineapples wrote:Got an idea...am thinking of capping the numbers at 14 next week; we'd play 6-a-side with subs or the 2 extra would mean cover for the inevitable odd no-show. It would mean first come, first serve and maybe encourage everyone to post asap...I think a lot of us prefer 6 a side anyway.

Count me in this week.
cheers,
Jonathan

If you ask me, capping the no's might not be such a good thing - if people miss the cut a few times they might just stop coming... So what if the numbers are uneven from time to time, 6v7, 7v8...who cares, we can weight the teams. No subs either - everyone plays, everyones' happy..?

I'm in for Wednesday.
Ben- I wouldn't have a problem with first 14 are in if the speed of people flagging availability is making the booking difficult. However am confused on the desire to play 6-a-side unless I've misunderstood which is possible given the lake of coffee I've consumed this afternoon. Surely 7s is best as demonstrated by our excellent game last week?

Alex- that's another stat for you to log, last player to post availability each week, player with the most last minute posts gets some sort of penalty/walk of shame at the end of year dinner!(cos you've got nothing else to do right? ;) )

DANGER

AS much as i would love 6v6 or 7v7 each week turning away players i dont think will be good

Big Reason why it can backfire, You get enough players and turn away the late one's, yet as we all know people drop out last minute and i dont think you can ask players you have turned away that a space has come up for them

or people will start reserving their space weather they are coming or not

I'm not the boss anymore but i'm down for everyweek :)

if one has to pay subs a week or three up front people generally stay pretty committed

Evening. If people aren't keen on limiting numbers, that's fine. Just a way to encourage early commitment, plus I (and a few others) prefer playing 6s on the 7s; bit more space to play. All I'm really trying to do is get a stable, committed group together...at least 12 players we can rely on to turn up each week. I don't think it's too much to ask for everyone to post availability by Sunday/Monday but if people aren't keen then that's fine. I appreciate it's easier for some than others.

Aaaargh. I am going to have to bail out from tonight's game. Wife has a work event. Will keep an eye on forum and see if I can get babysitter for couple of hours later if it looks like you could do with one more(& I would really like to play).
