Rather than go to Somerfields i would rather go without Fava beans , even if that meant for the rest of my life. My advice would be to check with the health food store, those chaps should be able to help. They were able to help me source some mung beans recently-which i served at a lunch party and everyone loved them. Hurrah for small stores, boo to Somerfields.

What are you planning to make with fava beans anyway (I've never come across them - what do you do with them)?

I'm a big fan of the health food shop too. Try their homemade samosas - they're fab!

A friend asked me to check the persian shop as they are apparently popular as a breakfast dish and so it was a possible source of supply.

I have no idea what she plans to use them for but she normally has to go all the way to Peckham to pick them up.

Just trying to be neighbourly to a friend in Penge...

fava beans

are also known as broad beans! you can get them in season from the superb Fresh and Fruity, and Somerfields has them in cans - Well Being probably have them canned as well.

Oh, it's just a broad bean, and I was so excited about the potential of the mysterious fava bean!

Next thing, someone'll be telling me that Zucchini is actually something boring like a courgette...

at least they are nothing to do with sarah beeny, as per the other thread.

she could probably design a really cool can for them - and charge double
