Hi,

I am looking for a good lawyer specialising in consumer law. My expensive fridge-freezer broke down "beyond economical repair" just after 4 years and I would like to know what my options are re. sales of goods act. Most solicitors I found deal with everything but consumer law and I would like to speak with somebody who really has some experience here.

A cheaper option - take out a subscription to Which magazine which gives you access to their legal services.

I know a far bit about the legal market, so had a hunt on the law society directory for lawyers who say they consumer law around the SE26 area.

These three seem to cover the issues you're looking for. I've never used any of them, but they at least say they cover exactly what you're looking for:

p.s. you might have access to free legal advice via your house or car insurance policy, or via your bank or credit card. Have a look at your policy documents. Halifax and co-op also do legal advice, possibly on a fixed price basis. Google them.

You will be wasting your time chasing the fridge freezer company. Use the time to buy one online using a discount code or voucher, some of which are upto £50

Easier said than done My FF is 1K worth so I am not really that quick to spend another £1k just 4 years down the line.

I was thinking about Which as I used to be a member but I have similar service from work. I thought face to face meeting might be more useful at the moment (or it's maybe just hopeful thinking).

I know about that article Wing - I have already report from engineer that it's beyond economical repair and I am not sure if that's enough as a proof that the FF weren’t durable enough when I bought it. Otherwise how can you prove that it was not satisfactory quality?

Apologies I didn't realise it was a serious FF. I would call their customer services and find out the life expectancy, 'I'm thinking of buying one of your fridges...'

Whilst you hope white goods last more than 4 years , unless you have extended warranty I think you are wasting your time and money and should get a new one.
