BeckenhamTown website closing

Post by stuart »

Just got this from Jon:

With the growth and engagement of other social media channels and greater time spent on those sites BeckenhamTown.us has done its job, so it is time to call it a day.

Started to give locals a free community voice when there was not one online, it was never about making money (thanks to all the local businesses who advertised and paid for the monthly hosting fees) and it was all about drawing a community together via online, it helped on many important issues, promoted small businesses, publicised local events and I thank you all. Some might say it launched a plethora of other local sites, and if it did then great, we are all friends. Unfortunately many of the good ones have come and gone, but they have all brought people together which has been wonderful.

The website will cease at the end of the year and I urge those who use it to join the free Facebook Group that has been running well these past few years instead at https://www.facebook.com/groups/BeckenhamTown/.

There is also of course the Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/BeckenhamTown.us/ but this is not so heavily updated.

For those with Twitter @Beckenham continues with daily posts and local retweets and if you tweet do not forget to use the hashtag #Beckenham or @Beckenham in your tweets if you want it to be possibly retweeted to over 14,000 nearby.
