Should we have automated news on the front page?

I'm lazy I like it!

automatic google news

Post by back_ache »

How about combining a RSS feed from google news about sydenham http://tinyurl.com/ot33l

with a site that'll reformat it to HTML http://feedjumbler.com

to have automatically the latest news about sydenham on the front page?

Hi,

Funny you should suggest that. I am experimenting with GoogleFeeds on another site here: http://www.erotarylondon.org/rssnews.php but as you can see I am having severe problems integrating it into the look'n'feel of that site.

If only I had more time! I'll have a look at your suggestion. Thanks.

PS I hope you don't mind me tinyurl-ing your link. phpBB gets indigestion with long lines.

Could you force the format with a style sheet or hack the PHP?

In theory yes.

I do hack Perl but PHP is a language too far for an old FORTRAN man. I would want to integrate the format with the existing CSS file without screwing all the other pages.

One of the hidden purposes of doing Pro-Bono work is an opportunity to developing & test new techniques I can use commercially. I'll set myself a target of cracking this one way or another this weekend if it turns out better than the last weekend - breakdown in Swansea, daughter assaulted by the Police in Swindon and a broken gas CH boiler in Sydenham!

On the other hand you sound as though you may be able help. Any chance?
